M's take over the second wild card spot with today's victory and the Tigers loss to the Giants.

M's also move to within 2 games of the A's for the 1st wildcard spot due to their loss to the Astros.

Wouldnt it be something if we were within a game or tied with the A's heading into next weekends series with a chance to tie or pass them.

At this point, the division most likely belong to the Angels but they can definitely take over the #1 WC. There was a great piece on NBCSports yesterday claiming how the M's may be the most dangerous WC team thanks to Felix.

I know the division is the most coveted and useful race to win, but dammit, I want to see Felix pitch a 1 game playoff at Safeco. Just the atmosphere around that place would be amazing.

I remember going to the first Supreme Court, his first game at home after the Perfect Game and getting chills with all the yellow and chanting. He got a roaring standing ovation just walking from the bullpen to the dugout before the game.

Nineteen years after the Mariners ended "19 long years of frustration" as Dave Niehaus put it when we beat the Angels in the one-game playoff in Seattle, wouldn't it be something if we ended 13 long years of frustration by beating the A's in a one-game playoff in Seattle? This assumes, of course, that the M's take over the first wildcard spot from the A's and then the A's do just enough not to totally collapse and get the second wildcard spot. It would be freakier if it was the Angels that fell apart, but at this point I don't see that happening. There's still a lot of baseball left and the M's have some work to do still, but it would be something if that scenario played out.

We kid about rather playing on the road because of having much better success away from Safeco. However a game playoff in Safeco would be so awesome for the city.

Good! we will take advantage of it today. Let the Detroit downward spiraling continue.

I think the Wildcard is Seattle's to lose. I'm probably the only one who thinks this, but I think we can cruise through the rest of the season. The only tough opponents are LAA and Toronto, but I think we can win one or two against both teams. We can really beat everyone else.

Good thing they put that Verlander/Price rotation together :L

They have been anything but dominant and it's hilarious

toronto should be an interesting series but I'm expecting to win mainly because this team is exceptional on the road. Very worried about the Angels though since we still have to face them 7 more times... those 7 games could make or break the M's chances so they need to beat up on who they should be beating up on. i.e. Texas and Houston.

Houston won't be a walk in the park though since they have come on strong as of late. That's a bit worrisome for me with 6 more games against them. It's definitely the WC's spot for the M's to lose.

Detroit's path seem a bit easier right now as well so let's just hope they continue to choke.

Chad Qualls shouldnt be allowed to face the A's. He's blown at least three saves against them.

It took awhile but Josh Fields finally helped out the Mariners. He struck out Donaldson for the final out and the M's are still only two behind the A's. The Tigers unfortunately won so the M's grip on the 2nd wildcard shrinks to 0.5 games.

Next series for each team

Mariners vs Astros
Tigers vs Royals
A's @ Whitesox (4 game series)
