I'm beginning to wonder whether we should have a pool on when Ludwick gets his first hit as a Pirate. He's now 0 for 8 over three games. He DOES have 2 walks, so he's not a total loss so far.
I wasn't pleased with the acquisition of Ludwick, who has been fading steadily since his only good season (2008). The good news is that the Pirates didn't give up much to get him, and he no doubt will be gone after this season ends.
I only hope that they don't insist on playing Ludwick after Presley and/or Tabata get back off the DL.
I have a feeling he will get a hit tonight. He is 5/15 with 1 HR against a bad pitcher in Lopez.
Honestly I didn't have an issue with this deal since they gave nothing but I don't get it when Tabata and/or Presley return who is the odd OF out? I assume it would be Paul but if both aren't back I think they like his speed off the bench.
The Ludwick deal was made because there were no other deals out there. Beltran refused to come here, Pence cost way too much, and Cuddyer and Kubel were made unavailable.
Ludwick just gives us one more option in the outfield who might get hot and hit some.
- Ryan Ludwick went 4 for 4 in last night's blowout loss to the Padres.
- Garrett Jones was on base 5 times, with a single, double, and 3 walks.
I guess the lowpoint (other than our pitching) was Pedro Alvarez, who grounded into 3 double plays, struck out, and made an error. I'm starting to feel sorry for the guy.
