I know that was a bad play by Alvarez, but why does everyone get two bases there? The runner had stopped at second, and the ball went out of play on the infield. I thought a second base was only awarded if there's a legitimate possibility for the runner to have scored had the ball not gone out of play. If that ball had just stopped on the fence to the dugout instead of getting through it, I don't think Segura would have even gotten third...

Pretty much what I've tweeted. The guy wasn't even breaking for third until he saw the ball get into the dugout. Isn't the rule that you have to be a certain distance toward the next bag to get an additional? Or was this an old little league/softball rule?

when i was in college playing, it was the base you were going to plus one. i didnt matter how far you were toward the next base.
sometimes in those situations, the runner starts to go back toward second when they see the throw coming in. our coach used to tell us when rounding to hold up or slow down on the throw, but dont start going back till the catcher or 3B fields it.
