Avoided the sweep in great fashion, man was that fun. Wish we took 2 out of 3 but not bad. Now let's take it to the Braves, lockdown as many as these divisional games as we can.
I'll say it again and again and again.....Matt Harvey is the weak link in the rotation.
He's too erratic and unreliable. I'd much rather move Lugo into the rotation to take Harvey's spot.
Vargas can't get back from the DL fast enough as far as I'm concerned.
Mets: RHP Jacob deGrom (2-0, 3.24) is 5-3 with a 2.19 ERA in 11 career starts against Atlanta. The 2.19 ERA is the lowest among all active pitchers with at least 10 career starts against the Braves.
Braves: RHP Julio Teheran (1-1, 5.40) will look for his second straight win after allowing one run in six innings in a 2-1 win over the Phillies on Monday.
Mets: Right-hander Zack Wheeler (1-1, 2.77 ERA) will make his fifth career start in Atlanta, where he is 2-1 with a 1.93 although this will be his first start in SunTrust Park.
Braves: Righty Mike Foltynewicz (1-1, 2.53) will make his third start against the Mets since joining the Braves in 2015 and hope for better. In a relief appearance and two starts against New York, he's 0-1 with a 10.45 ERA in 10.1 innings vs. the Mets.
Mets beat the Cards 6-5 in 10.
Yoenis Cespedes hit another monster blast with 2 on.
Is Jay Bruce's bat heating up?
Matt Harvey made an appearance out of the pen.
Robert Gsellman (3-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win, and Jeurys Familia earned his 9th save.
Also....the Phils, Braves & Nats all lost.
Mets: LHP Jason Vargas (broken right hand) started Monday for Triple-A Las Vegas and allowed three runs over four innings. He is scheduled to make his season debut Saturday in San Diego.
UP NEXT:
Mets LHP Steven Matz (1-1, 4.42 ERA) seeks his first win against St. Louis in the middle game of the series Wednesday night. Matz is 0-2 with an 8.64 ERA in two career starts against the Cardinals. The Cards counter with RHP Michael Wacha (3-1, 4.22), who has won his last three starts.
Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard (2-0, 3.29) will face St. Louis RHP Carlos Martinez (2-1, 1.42) in the final game of the three-game series Thursday. The Mets are 5-0 in Syndergaard's starts. Martinez has not allowed a run his last 18 innings.
