Bored and just here to say hi......the season is drawing closer....

Oh, and the real reason I am here....what do y'all think about Payton trashing Hackett? Personally, I like it because it's true.....

However, it could backfire if used as bulletin board material week 5...just curious what you fine folks think....

I'm not sure that Payton's comments are that big of a deal. Besides, everything he said was true. Bulletin board material really only impacts the first couple plays of a game. After that, both teams usually settle into the grind and just play ball. That stuff is more about putting the media vultures into a feeding frenzy. Payton recently said he regretted making the comments but I'm not convinced that's true.

Can't wait to give the Raiduhs a Mile High welcome on week 1 of the season!

Agreed. But what Payton is doing here is taking the pressure off his players and putting it on himself - like some very good coaches do.

The real question is how do you feel about the Lakers off season?

Very happy....we had 1 of the better free agency periods.

Did they really improve enough though to go from being swept to actually competing? I think they did enough to be the playoff team but with Lebron another year older needing more rest and not being able to carry a team like he has in the past I would put them around the 4th or 5th best team in the West.

And yet they carried AD and overcame a horrible start of the year changing the entire team dynamic overnight. Still made the WCF fairly easily.

Underestimate at your peril, especially with the fa's they retained and added.

I'm still calling them a playoff team. My issue is how much better have they actually gotten? AD is always a question mark of how many games he will play and whether he will be healthy for the playoffs. Lebron is starting to actually show some age by himself missing some time and struggling to put in a full year's worth of work. For the first time maybe ever his conditioning was an issue in the playoffs. By the 4th quarter against the Nuggets his legs were gone.

As for some of the players they signed/re-signed many of them have been up and down players. Hachimura for example played outstanding in the series against the Nuggets, but on average he is more of a good rotational/end of starting unit kind of talent.

I think the Lakers did all they could this offseason and made a lot of smart moves. I'm just not sure they closed the gap to actually compete especially with what some of the other teams in the West were able to accomplish. I fully admit the Nuggets are not as good as they were last year unless somehow the 2nd year players/rookies become more than people think. They are banking on their late round draft picks to be something. Not a great formula but thankfully they are only counting on them as rotational pieces.

Braun will make a significant leap as 6th man this next year and their rookies are solid types that can contribute in a pinch. The Warriors are the team I question if they really got better, not the Lakers as I definitely think the Lakers held their own/got slightly better. I have the west as:
1. Nuggets
2. Suns
3. Lakers
4. Kings
5. Warriors
6. Grizzlies

I might put LA over Suns, but its close and probably based on personal bias. ;)
