Cardinals can put the Smogtowners in a DEEP hole tonight, and this Red Sox fan wold love it if they did.

Starting for the team once known as the "Trolley Dodgers" will be rookie Hyung-Jin Ryu, regular season WHIP of
1.203 with 3.14 K/BB ratio.

For the team managed by Red Schoendienst when I was a teenager will be Adam Wainwright, who had a career best
1.068 WHIP in the regular season, bringing his career number down to 1.184.

Did some websurfing on Schoendienst recently and was surprised to learn he's still alive at 90 years of age now.

GO CARDINALS!

Yep, Reds is still kicking. Not sure he still does, but up until a few years ago he attended spring training. Smart as a whip..

On a different note, the passing of Stan Musial, if you want an insight to what kind of man Stan was, google Bob Costas' eulogy at Stan's funeral. Great insight about the character of the man and how people felt and thought about him.

Cardinals winning the pitch count battle through 2 innings.

Ryu has had to throw 35 pitches to only 25 for Wainwright.

Having watched the Red Sox for so long I know that has an effect eventually,
even though it's far from spectacular.

GO CARDINALS!

Cardinals back in the lead on pitch count, so they're more likely to have a bat-around inning late than the Smogtowners are.

WIN THIS, CARDINALS!

Cards dont have the defense to keep winning pitching duels. We need the bats to have some life

People keep overestimating how much offense a winning team needs.

Winning pitching duels pays off better than winning slugfests as a general rule.

Yes but you need to be perfect defensively and that isnt really the Cardinals calling card with this roster. They are the clutch hitting team with good pitching.

There's a reason Earl Weaver used to put pitching first on his, "pitching, defense, and 3-run homers list.

Earl knew what he was talking about!

The Tom Yawkey era Red Sox ended up being a good example of why putting 3 run homers first doesn't work that well, even with a hitters park as you home field.

I totally get what you're saying. You still need all 3 to win a WS but you can go pretty far with just the first 2

Not looking good for the Cardinals at the moment, but there's still time.

At this rate, Ryu would need to throw 150 pitches to go 9 innings. So his shutout bid shouldn't last much loner.

The sooner it's ended, the happier I'll be!

TOUR THE BASES, CARDINALS! :yahoo:

If you lose this game you've still got a lead in the series, so don't panic, Redbird fans.

Through 3 games, we are hitting worse than any team has ever hit in the NLCS in the history of baseball. No where to go but up and we still have the 2-1 lead

What an ugly game last night. In the world of the late Billy Martin, John Jay looked like a monkey trying to **** a football last night. Oh well, they still have the lead and the great thing about baseball is that they will be right back out there tonight. No meltdown innings tonight Lynn, PLEASE.

I've heard a lot of people complaining about Puig's antics last night. I didn't mind him celebrating and having some fun. The only thing that bothered me is that he was pimping a ball that didn't even leave the park. They way he flipped the bat and stood there gawking you would have thought he hit it 500 feet, LOL. Just run dude, if that was a Cards player I would have been pissed.
