I know most will put it on Tannehill, and it ultimately does come down to execution - But, the play calling has stunk in the two series... They need to call more perimeter runs instead of power runs until that O-Line gets better... They need to call for more short and intermediate passes, and quick passes as opposed to those that have Tannehill having to sit back so long in the pocket reading defense, to only come up empty.

They said they planned to play the starters on offense only two series... That was a very weak pair of series... Not the best way to get your guys going when you only play them two series and do so by with weak play calling. Our defense is better so far... But our play calling on offense has to be better to help the execution

See, 3rd down and 1, and we try for a play action pass that goes incomplete... you can at least attempt a slant or comeback route to play there ... Or a more high percentage call there would have been to run the ball and get the tough yards. Bad play calling not helping the execution

Touchdown Dolphins after a nice drive. The Fins are running the ball well. Tannehill has been making good decisions with his passes & movement in the pocket. TE Keller is playing great. The first team defense was too much for the Jags to handle. The Fins got consistent pressure on the Jags QB. The Fins starters also stuffed the run. 7-0 Fins end of the first & Carroll with the INT. Go Dolphins!

Better drive, followed by a takeaway and more points... Too bad Dion Sims couldnt finish that play to get the TD for himself

That was a close play & a good effort by Sims. Good power run by Jonas Gray. Good play calling on the drive, the run by McNutt was also a good call. DE Jordan is in the game now.

There is no QB controversy in Miami - But there sure is a kicker controversy... Sturgis giving Carpenter a run for his money. Would be fun to keep them both - One for the short yardage kicks and kick offs and the other for long yardage kicks... could happen depending on how the rest of the roster takes shape...

I think Sturgis wins the spot but Carpenter is a good NFL kicker. Carpenter may bring a draft pick for the Fins a 7th or possibly even a 6th rounder On another note: Jonas Gray is a reliable RB, especially with getting TD's. He finds the running lanes & puts points on the board. That's what he did at Notre Dame also.

Teams have done it before (ATL with Morten Anderson his last season and a punter who's name escapes me comes to mind) but it didn't really work too well.

Unless Sturgis' groin injury is an on going problem that would cause him to miss games or unless he starts missing FG's within 45 yrds, I think he can do it all. His kickoffs were too deep to be returnable and he hit a 58 yard FG last night. That shows he has a very strong leg. I wouldn't use two roster spots on kickers. There are other positions that the team may need to keep an extra player. At RB for example, D Thomas played well last night & has been productive in the NFL, L Miller needs to get his ankle healthy but he could be a star some day, J Gray looks to be the teams best goal line RB, Gillislee is raw but he's got potential.

I certainly like Sturgis and his potential, and the fact that he comes cheap for the time being - That being said, Carpenter, in spite of a few moments of struggles, which any athlete and human-being - I think he still has the ability to be an elite kicker in this league.

As someone mentioned, its a tough situation to handle due to the make up of the roster, but as was also said - it has been done before and can happen again.. I think if the makeup of the roster allows it - they should go for it...If they feel they have enough depth and quality at the other position, just do it.

If not, get him in some games during the pre-season to raise his trade value and shop him around and try to get something before the season starts and having to cut him lose for nothing... We may only get draft picks for him, but maybe we get slightly more.
