Talks between the New York Mets and Curtis Granderson's representatives intensified late Tuesday, and a source familiar with the negotiations told ESPNNewYork.com the organization is working to land the free-agent outfielder on a three-year deal.

A second source said late Tuesday that the sides are talking but nothing was imminent.

The Mets may ultimately concede and guarantee a fourth year in order to land Granderson, a source said.

Granderson, who will turn 33 in March, said Tuesday on a conference call regarding the players' union that he met Sunday with Mets general manager Sandy Alderson. That has been described as more of an introductory meeting, though, so talks have escalated quickly.

"We ate a nice meal, and it was great to enjoy some salmon," Granderson said.

The Mets may be the only team negotiating with free-agent OF Curtis Granderson for what could end up a four-year deal worth as much as $17 million a season, according to multiple reports…

8:25 am: The Mariners and Red Sox could post the biggest threat for Granderson to the Mets, who do not yet know if his price will remain in a range they consider reasonable (Martino).
7:50 am: The Mets remain optimistic they can finalize a deal with Granderson, and there is no evidence the White Sox or Mariners are pursuing him ([ame=""]Heyman[/ame]).
7:45 am: The Mets seem open to doing four years, with less money in year one of the deal ([ame=""]Cerrone[/ame]).
7:42 am: Granderson’s friend would be shocked if he signed with the Mets (Davidoff).

Just sign him already.
