Jimmie won last year, but Gordon has good success at this track IIRC.

He must see ratings have been declining of late.. his thought process really makes me scratch my head in disbelief.

The manufacturers have been pressing for a new engine package (more modern) for a few years now but NASCAR has been reluctant to do it. It was like pulling teeth to get them to do fuel injection, and even that is a fairly basic system compared to what everyone else runs. Basically the manufacturers spend a considerable chunk of change on an engine package that is no longer in use anywhere in racing or production. I suppose reducing power for durability purposes is a compromise NASCAR is willing to make as opposed to adopted a modern V8 or a turbocharged V6.

FWIW, it's pretty amazing from an engineering standpoint that we're getting 900 HP out of a 40 year old engine package and it'll last upwards close to 1500 miles (roughly two full race weekends), though most top teams rebuild them after one race.

Yea Wildturkey and very few cars especially the ones represented in the cup series run 15-inch wheels either. The turbocharged, fuel-injected V-6 engine package is proposed for 2015 but mnay of the teams are bulking at it already primarily because the technical departments of these same teams have people who are doing things the way they have for generations. Only the big teams have guys who are educated enough to know how to construct the new engine packages. The rest relie on buying production packages. While they are at it, allow for product identification to occur and open up the tire manufactures to anyone and see what happens.

That's Martinsville for you. First 50 laps and last 100 laps they race and bump. the rest they just turn laps. I have even fallen asleep at the track during the middle of the race.
