Interesting decision having Nick Franklin hit 2nd. He is hitting .154 with a .227 OBP.

0-3 tonight with 3 Ks. His most recent strikeout was with runners at 2nd and 3rd no outs and a full count, swung at a pitch in the dirt. Didn't expect him to suddenly be a world beater, but I expected better than this at least.

We already knew he could hit AAA pitching.

MLB pitching is a different story.

It took Ackley a month of regular play last year after a similar stint in AAA last year to show signs of life (kinda). We'll see.

If Nick Franklin could get his strikeouts down I think he would be just fine, but that is obviously asking for a lot. If you look at his month by month totals last year, you see that he does better when he doesn't strike out at an astronomical rate.

The biggest problem is that Nick Franklin's best defensive position is 2B, which is currently occupied by the team's best position player.

Franklin's first 129 PAs:
4 HR .299 BA .364 OBP .479 SLG 20 strikeouts

Franklin's next 127 PAs:
6 HR .191 BA .260 OBP .400 SLG 44 strikeouts

Franklin's next 125 PAs:
2 HR .153 BA .248 OBP .252 SLG 41 strikeouts

Perhaps I am stating the completely obvious, but Franklin will not succeed when he strikes out so much. His first 129 PAs and his performance in the minors indicate that he has talent, he just has to get past the strikeout problem if he wants to be a major league contributor.

Franklin is hitting .183 since the all star break last year. It's not a small sample size for him. He has yet to make adjustments after the league figured him out after his first few weeks. He seems to be guessing way to much and not understand which situations he sees fastballs vs offspeed stuff.

I was really hoping they'd also throw Franklin in at SS a lot because, after all, his bat would make up for any defensive problems, him hitting .370 at AAA and all. I would have had a reason to watch some of these games, just for the hilarity that would ensue if he were out there playing the position regularly.

That is the rumor but won't have to until 4 or 5 days when the start comes back up. Chavez for now.
