He wasn't a good pitcher (rest his soul), but he was a fun team maskot... Are you saying we need a new team maskot since Uribe is gone?

I think Kiké Hernandez can be the new cheerleader now.

He was good in 2004 when he threw a complete game shutout against the Cards, avoiding the sweep and earning the Dodgers their first postseason win since 1988. I was hoping we'd have some "Lima Time" type magic in this series.

As much as I didn't like having Uribe on the team, he was a pretty funny guy. I will miss that about him, he was always in the thick of it whenever something really funny happened.

Oh, did I pick them to come up short? Meh. The were shit in the playoffs.

Ucsb just lost due to a guy stealing home. I fucking hate baseball. Stealing home.

Any team that makes the playoffs has a shot to win, we just witnessed a Royals-Giants WS for christ's sake. It just didn't go the Dodgers' way, that doesn't mean they aren't one of the best teams in the league.

Well.... Looking like a half game back after this loss.

As promised, I said I would reserve judgement on this team until late May/early June. Without further ado... this team will not make the playoffs. It's a good team, say 81-83 wins, but not built for the long haul from a pitching/bullpen stand point. Bullpen can't take on a heavy load and the starters will struggle to go deep. And against teams that grind, work counts- well even if this team did make the playoffs, they'd lose to the likes of the Cards or Giants.

John Jay returned from the DL to grind out a thirteen pitch at bat and had a base hit to show for it. Orel brought up a great point- that at bat may have made Paco a non option for tomorrow. The season is a grind, and this Dodger team is not built for it.

of for fuck sakes dude, so ignore the great first 5 weeks and only focus on the last 10 days, right?

Last 10 days? More like last 10 years.

This team is it that good against elevated competition. Not really debatable.

Hats off to the Dodgers who tied a franchise record for consecutive scoreless innings on the road.

Frias looks good however.

Frias is sketchy, I'm still not sold on him, he's so inconsistent and his offspeed pitches still need work to become a full time starter. Although that was a very impressive performance. Great win, I was ok with 1/3 this series, so if we can steal the series tomorrow that would be awesome.

I actually thought the Sunday game was our best chance at stealing one, what an nice series win this would be! I don't know who the quick morning turnaround game time hurts more, but we have yet to use KJ this series.

Liberatore looked solid again. A hard throwing leftie like him is a weapon we have not had for some time. Last year it was all JP Howellin most pivotal leftie leftie situations. Liberatiore struck out Capenter for crying out loud, I don't know if we've ever accomplished that!

As for Frias, I think you just take them start by start and he's pitching midtelief by the 2nd half of the season.

Last year it was mostly Paco in the leftie specialist role. Liberatore is going to help out a lot, last year Paco and JP were ran into the ground.

Paco pitched 14 innings in the regular season and was a pleasant surprise in light of Howell wearing down. JP pitched 49 innings last year.

Carpenter wears us out... 2-0 Red Birds after Peralta knocked in Carpenter with a two run shot.

You have to admire how well the Cardinals strategically approach hitters.... clearly they do their scouting homework well and the disseminate the information to their players who complete the most difficult part: execution.

They have made Alex Guerrero pay for his first pitch aggressiveness and offered AGon a steady diet of low and away all series long. The Dodgers just had two on with one out in the 6th with AGon and Kendrick due up.... and Martinez bared down, stuck to the game plan and struck them both out (Howie on three pitches!).

St. Louis finds the right players and puts them in a great position to succeed. While they may stymie us more often than not, it's great baseball to watch. Hats off....

Rosenthal got bailed out by the ump and another foot on Pederson's flyball in the 2nd and it's a tie game. Nicely played series by two great teams. Got to admire Molina though, he knows exactly how to work batters and when to settle down his pitchers. Went out to the mound for a meeting with Rosenthal realizing his command was a bit off, reminded me of the playoffs last year when he did his absolute best to stall the Dodger hitters while he tries to get his pitcher's head screwed on straight.

And I misremembered that aspect of the season sportzphan, either way Liberatore will help a lot if he keeps this up and if Yimi can get back to where he was the first month of the season then this bullpen will be undeniably better than last year's.

Yeah, I agree with everything you said. Lima time was super fun. Honestly, it's like Uribe. Not the best player, but very likely the best teammate.
