I'm not being my usually prick-face self when I write this next question.... why not have Greinke bat in the 8 spot and Ellis in the 9 spot?

Dear facking goodness and anything that is sacred in baseball, Ellis is complete shit. Meanwhile Butera had a game of it yesterday (Edwin Jackson aside and todays match up aside). Why stop the young man's momentum for Ellis?

Did I mention Ellis is complete shite at the plate? Maybe the worst starting catcher in baseball.

Hoping for some great baseball. Want a dodgers sweep but realistically probably split or 3 games.

My brother Vehemently defends Ellis as a good to great catcher. LOL

If I'm Donnie Baseball I tell Ellis to go up to the plate and if he swings before 2 strikes he'll be on the next bus to Rancho Cucamonga. His entire goal at the plate should be taking pitches and trying to draw a random walk. GIDP is worst-case scenario. Surely he knows this?! Hell, I'd put Greinke in the 7-hole.

Hilarious post.... I think Butera is better defensively and certainly more upside with the bat (he has two more home runs and the same OPS in fewer at bats than Ellis). All the while, Ellis is 33 years old and 10 percentage points away from becoming obsolete in MLB - Kershaw's best buddy or not. Meanwhile, you can develop a younger Butera (three years younger) and see what he can become down the stretch.

I know Ellis can take a walk (33 walks to date), but the fact that he plays defense like a stiff since late last year leads me to believe he is a major liability. The only reason you tolerate an aging, shitty bat is because they can play defense!!

Why did Miguel Olivo have to pull a Mike Tyson on Alexander Guerrero? He might have a shot right now.

I'd take his dugout luggage in a heartbeat over two sub Mendoza line hacks.

Can't argue with any of this. We've been shit at bat from behind the plate since Martin left.

Can Dee Gordon catch? Make Turner everyday second baseman? Outside the box thinking, Donnie!

A major power surge has helped earn Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp National League Player of the Week honors.

Kemp went on a tear last week, belting five home runs in six games to lead the league. The only other player in baseball with as many homers last week was Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner, who was named the American League Player of the Week.

Over that stretch, Kemp drove in nine runs, batted .409 and tallied 24 total bases. He turned in a league-best 1.091 slugging percentage and also stole a base and scored six runs as the Dodgers won four of six games.

It's Kemp's fifth career weekly award, and his first since April 15, 2012.

Kemp hit two homers Tuesday, becoming the seventh Dodger to eclipse the 600 career-RBI threshold in that game. On Thursday, he went 3-for-4 with a walk-off single in the 10th inning. It was Kemp's ninth career walk-off hit and his second consecutive three-hit game.

The veteran outfielder then homered Saturday and Sunday against the Cubs.

NL POTW Lets hope he keeps it up.

As summer rolls on, Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw keeps getting hotter.

The reigning Cy Young winner was named the National League's Pitcher of the Month for the second straight month after going 4-0 in five starts with a 1.07 ERA (best in the NL) in July.

Kershaw pitched a league-high 42 innings, including three complete games, and gave up just five earned runs while posting the second-lowest opponents' batting average (.165) among qualifying NL pitchers. With 43 strikeouts, he averaged just more than one strikeout per inning.

On July 10 against the Padres, the lefty saw his scoreless-inning streak snapped at 41 innings, which ranks as the sixth-longest in the expansion era (since 1961). The 26-year-old currently has 10 straight winning decisions, tied for his career high, and is 13-2 on the season with a MLB-best 1.71 ERA and 150 strikeouts in 121 1/3 innings.

No surprise here. Best pitcher in baseball. Due to start tomorrow.

The poor play from the Cubs' series continues. Hoping the Dodgers wake up soon. Bad defense and poor AB's with RISP is not the way to win.

It's August and we need to accept that you never know what team will show up. Unless Haren is pitching....
