I am not sure about Todd's contract, but a number of guys are being cut around the league right now because of the NFL year starting soon. They have to be cut or are owed at least some money against the current cap depending on how their deals were done.

Good agents put a bonus or guarantee of some sort in the contract that comes up about this time. They want to force the team to make a decision before the Free Agency period begins so that if their client is looking for a job, they will have plenty of time while teams still have money.

Even without the clause, many teams will still cut players at this time as it is just good business to be a straight shooter with your players. Additionally, they need to free up the cap space to go after Free Agents

Wondering if Stoutland could have his eye on Orlando Franklin who played for him at Miami?

That's what the buzz is = Franklin, and for the reason you mentioned. Good suggestion.
How about Stephan Wisniewski? He's reportedly looking for $3M/year. Fair price.

Franklin makes alot of sense. He just turned 27 and he's big, tough, and can play. I'd sign him to a long term deal so when Peters retires he can play tackle.

Franklin would make this the best line in the NFL and give us 3/5 young starters. Great situation to be in. Then maybe draft a young guy to develop with the intent of having him replace Mathis or Franklin is you needed Franklin to slide out to Tackle. But it takes all the pressure off finding talent at that position.

Wisniewski is the guy I like, he is veristile to. I would feel much better if Kelce got hurt with wis sliding over to center than David Molk again.

To clarify, Franklin would move from RG to RT when Peters retires with Lane obviously taking over at LT. Good situation to have with guys that can play multiple positions.

I'm hoping Cary Williams is next in line to be cut. I can see Cole being cut as well - most likely if he doesn't take a pay cut.

Granted we are signing a big time G in free agency with this cut.

Franklin or Iupati would be my guess.

This is great news. We badly needed a RG.

Gotta think Mathis gets paid a bit more too. Chip knows he needs a good OL for his system to work at its peak level. Especially in the redzone.

If we get Iupati or Franklin, Maxwell & say A.Rolle ...I'd be ecstatic. We get Mariota on draft day as well as I suspect we will...I'll be fucking pumped!!!

If they sign Maxwell, Franklin, Worilds and Maclin that is probably $35M or so in salary cap space. They cut Cole and can probably make it work from there. Draft a first round rookie corner. Then you get your new ILB in the 2nd. Keep Williams and Ryans around for a year to show the rookies the ropes. You notice I didn't mention safety. You have the Watkins, Carroll, Reynolds and Wolf duke it out for the job.

I think Carroll gets the Safety job, although they will likely draft a safety later in the draft. As far as CB, if they don't get Maxwell (he will get $10M/year from somebody), then Culliver may be the next target @ CB.

Iupati and Franklin don't really fit as guards here. They are huge. Not guys that can get out and run.

They might just go with Tobin.

Franklin is a better fit and cheaper. I think he is athletic enough to get the job done.

I've been looking into Wisnewski a bit. Starting to like that idea.

I've been reading that he could be a better guard.
