here we go. Who would have thought with 2 rookies and a 32 year with a big history of injuries we would need more pitching? :D

If only history would have warned us.

Almost said something last week about seeing a possible DL stint coming for Kuma. The regularity of his flat spinning off speed pitches meant something was wrong.

Here's the golden lining. This means there was a real reason for Kuma struggling outside of him just getting old and losing it. If he can heal up and the offense can hold shit together, we can have a hopefully healthy Iwakuma for the last 4 months when it matters.

I wasn't worried about his age being his declining factor. I was worried it being exactly what it turned out to be...another injury. I get your point that if healed he could regain he ability, but I worry it is just one more set back for a guy that is known for set backs.

I am just so disappointed with Jack not having insurance for when he goes down and for me Elias is not insurance for a team that wants to make the playoffs.

I'd stay on the side of being cautious and keep him out as long as necessary. From 2012-2014 he had an ERA of 3.07. That's good enough to make him a #1 on a lot of rotations, he's an excellent pitcher and we need to get him healed up.

He also had only 77 starts over those 3 years showing how he misses on average of 7 starts per year for those 3 years compared to Felix. Numbers are great when pitching, but if you can't take the ball every 5 days stats don't do you a lot of good.

Well it is worth noting that his first year, he started the year in the bullpen. So I'm not sure how many starts he actually missed due to injuries that first year.

He started 33 the next year, and started 28/33 his second. So over that two year span he only missed 5 starts. Not sure if he missed any starts due to injuries that first year, but I don't recall him being hurt.

Ah, I thought he started the season in the bullpen because of a poor spring training or something like that.

It was but because he came of an injury year in Japan and had no velocity. Really is a good article of any of you get the chance to read it.

This is definitely a major blow no way around it. Especially with innings counts in play for 3/5 of the rotation. I'm afraid of what September will look like even if another arm is added at some point.

Maybe we add Colon or Hamels?

As long as the Mets are in it, and they are, they're not trading Colon who has been really good.

And hell no to what it's gonna take for Hamels

Someone on the radio estimates that Kuma will be out at least 6 weeks.
Kuma hasn't been right since last August. An entire winter of rest did not fix him and I don't think another six weeks will either. I think the problem is worse than that. He is in his walk year so I don't blame him for wanting to pitch through the problems rather than go under the knife. But ultimately I think he is going to have to go under the knife anyway.

Exactly my and others worries in the offseason. Should have never counted on him after his injuries and his digression over the last 8 months.
