My point remains.
The NBA is changing... the old rules may not apply as strictly.
Stevens is on the cutting edge of positionless basketball and analytics... he's building something new, and on the lead wave of it.
Your words are full of traditional, time tested NBA wisdom. No doubt.
Wasn't that long ago that most folks swore Golden State would never win a title... because "you can't win a NBA championship based on 3 pt shooting" and similar, time tested wisdom.
I'll stand by what I said... only time will tell, of course.Arguing that this Celtics team is the once in a generation team that defies the historical trends of the NBA is about as counter-factual as you can get.
Is it possible? Of course. But it isn't very likely.
Kevin Garnett was 1st team All-NBA and DPOY of the year when they won their championship. Paul Pierce was All-NBA that year as well.
Kyrie has made one All-NBA team in his career so far. He's a surefire All-Star level player. He isn't elite.
The Pistons are the go to example whenever someone wants to point to a team without an elite player that won the championship. And there is a reason for that. Because they are the ONLY example in the last 40 years, if not longer, of a team that won a championship without a player that has won an MVP.
guess you can continue to hope, blubber boy...
Actually, I kind of want "LeClown" out of the eastern conference at this point. Thank you for your concern, though. You still have the writing skills of a five-year-old boy that just discovered social media for the first time...
Yeah I don't believe a word that guy says and the fact that it's not being reported elsewhere kinda says a lot.@TheKlaw
Vecsey has been relegated to clown car status.
But, have you seen this reported elsewhere?
Real Estate can be sold.
But, if he goes back after all this back and forth nonsense....
I will be convinced he is indeed a simpleton being led around by the nose.
Peter Vecsey: Combined with the incontrovertible fact that Kawhi’s placid personality is a perfect fit in San Antonio and torturously unfit to cope with the media madness of Los Angeles and New York — even Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago and Miami —I’m convinced a reconciliation is imminent. " The fact Kawhi is building a home in San Antonio for himself, and one, I’m told, for his mother, somewhat bolsters that conclusion … though athletes’ custom-made residences certainly don’t guarantee an iota of permanency.
Peter Vecsey: In a cell conversation yesterday with Kawhi’s fringe friend (see above car quote), my first words were ones I’ve often promoted: “You know, I’m only as good as my source. What can you tell me?” Enough so that I’m thoroughly disinclined to believe Kawhi and Pop can’t patch things up, predominantly because their relationship isn’t in need of a large patch. From what I’m told, they’ve never exchanged harsh words or gone off on each other. A single problem existed last season that would not go away: Kawhi’s caregivers and doctors felt his repaired quad wasn’t entirely healthy when he returned 28 games into the season. After nine, some very effective, minute-monitored games, they insisted he return to rehab.
Just like with Hayward not making all star teams, the same applies to Kyrie and awards. He's of that caliber whether he gets the award or not. There's only so many slots.
Paul Pierce the year before the big 3 and the year they won (I included both since his numbers will dip after Big 3. Trying to give reference that he's still skilled):
07: 25pts, 5 rebs, 4 assits, 21.7 PER
08 (title): 19 pts, 5 rebs, 4 assists, , 19.6 PER
Kyrie the last 2 season:
17: 25 pts, 3 rebs, 6 assists, 23.0 PER
18: 24 pts, 4 rebs, 5 assists, 25.0 PER
They're at a similar level.
What made the Detroit team work was they had one of the best coaches of all time. And they beat a team with a bunch of superstars who had won a couple titles previously....hmmm....
Stevens is the best coach today. And the Warriors are a bunch of superstars who have won a couple titles previously.
It's facile to dismiss the Celtics outright. It would help to have a superstar. But it is not strictly necessary if they have enough other stuff in their favor.
You seem to have a problem with differing opinionsYou know you sound like @Montalban sometimes?
They would be severe underdogs, and rightly so. They would need some serious Cavalier 2016 style luck to actually beat the Warriors in a series. It is always possible, but highly unlikely as I have said.
All I am saying is the the Celtics should be willing to move off of some of their considerable young assets if they have an opportunity to make their team better by acquiring a superstar. It is quite literally mind boggling that some of you are arguing this.

I am serious!Shirley you must be serious.

Nope. That was last year. This year I said it would be tougher and next year will be the toughest yet. If they fall short next year I won't be at all surprised. I also don't think they can keep the Fab Four together past maybe 2 more years. I'm thinking Draymond is the most likely to not be here at the start of the 2020-21 season.Weren't you the guy saying that the Warriors were just going to roll through everyone at the start of the playoffs?
I'm with @msgkings322 here on this one. I get what you're saying about the superstar angle, but the Celtics present a unique problem for the Warriors in that they can provide multiple great wing athletes to help match up against the Warriors. The biggest difference between them and Houston is that every one of them can score too. It's not like they have Ariza or Tucker having to hang out in the corner. They have legitimate scorers at every position. The Celtics can attack the Warriors defense in multiple ways.
They are clearly a threat as constructed and healthy.
