Aw, Bleep!

A few positives.

1 Most pitchers eventually have TJ surgery anyway. So, in that sense it is good to get Taillon's out of the way right now.

2 It happened early enough in the season, that by next yr at this time, Taillon should be ready to go? Start the season at AAA & be up with the Bucs by next June?

3 The injury happened while Taillon was still in the minors & not this summer, when he was up here with the Bucs so, we don't lose a yr of service time with him on his FA clock.

This news still sucks though, no doubt about that! I was looking forward to the Cole & Taillon 1 - 2 punch here in Pittsburgh come June.

It makes not retaining AJ Burnett this offseason sting a little bit more now.

Long term, Tommy John isn't as big a concern as it once was. It is a pity we won't see him in Pittsburgh this season, though.

It only hurts this year if we really need him this year. It definitely hurts next year when we lose Liriano, Rodriguez, and Volquez. Depending on how you feel about each of them, you cannot deny that their innings will be missed.

So starting depth is Locke, Gomez, Stolmy, Cumpton, and Phil Irwin. Obviously worse than with Taillon, but not terrible assuming the top of the rotation holds.

Well lets hope this is the only TJ surgery he has and does not become Medlen or Beachy in ATL.

It stinks and the reason teams need starting pitching depth.
BTW....Vance Worley probably will be another option.

Also Clay Holmes just had TJ surgery and Glasnow is just started throwing it hasn't been a good start to Pirate pitching prospects this year.

Since Locke isn't stretched out yet, I would go Stolmy, Gomez, Cumpton, Locke, Irwin........but once we hit the All Star break I think Kingham could be an option.

I didn't even pay attention to what injury Locke has, figured it was minor. Forgot about Worley.

Stolmy or Gomez would be the best option to spot start.
