James Casey reportedly getting cut

Reporters are tweeting it. Not sure what the salary cap savings would be.

There are a number of veteran players the Eagles can cut as salary cap casualties in order to free up space. For example, the Eagles could save a total of $26 million by releasing Trent Cole ($8.43M), Cary Williams($6.5), DeMeco Ryans ($6.9M), and James Casey ($4M) while only suffering a combined $4 million in dead money.

Plenty of more dead weight to get rid of also. That with our current 20 something million under the cap, we should be golden this FA

I think some of those vets are seen as valuable by Chip. I could see Cole and Ryans getting restructured for example, but not cut outright.

The thing about Casey is we got Trey Burton whom the coaches seem to like as a #3 TE. Casey was OK, not a bad player, but after they drafted Ertz, whom they apparently did not expect to be there, the plans changed.

I'd re-sign Casey to a lesser deal. When they signed him they didn't expect to add Ertz so he got way overpaid.

But the main point is this: We had the best ST in the league. Let's not dismantle any of it if we don't have to.

I like it. So now the Eagles have cleared out $13.3 million in 2015 cap -- $4 million for James Casey, $2.8 million for Todd Herremans, $6.5 million for Williams.
