They said on the MLB Channel today that in his entire career he only played in 4 games where his team was mathematically eliminated from the pennant race.
That is hard to believe. Also is his hall of fame induction really today? It seems like a strange time. I'm guessing they didn't do it on a weekend in the summer because of Covid? They said on the MLB Channel today that in his entire career he only played in 4 games where his team was mathematically eliminated from the pennant race.
It does seem hard to believe. That is definitely some sustained excellence from the YankeesThat is hard to believe. Also is his hall of fame induction really today? It seems like a strange time. I'm guessing they didn't do it on a weekend in the summer because of Covid?
He should have made a lot more all star teams too. I don't think the people in Detroit got the memo about stuffing the ballot boxes with all players on the home team.Interesting fact according to Baseball Reference
Derek Jeter 20 years, WAR 71.3, HOF Voting % 99.7
Lou Whitaker 19 Years, WAR 75.1, HOF Voting % 02.9
I am not saying that Jeter doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame ... he does. Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell (70.7 WAR) should have been voted in together.
Whitaker just wasn't quite there offensively. Hit .300 once, hit more than 20 homers only twice and drove in more than 80 runs only once. Plus, the last seven years or so of his career he was up against AlomarHe should have made a lot more all star teams too. But the difference Jeter made to his team compared to what Whitaker meant to his is not comparable.........In my opinionInteresting fact according to Baseball Reference
