I guess we'll see how the change of scenery works for both of these guys. Like Grilli, Frieri was taken from the closer's role for the Angels. Hopefully he can get back to being a back of the bullpen arm for us. He has been striking guys out, so he at least has that going for him.

Looking at his numbers, it seems he's been victimized by upticks in HR/FB% (21.1%!) and BABIP. Since I haven't seen him pitch, though, I can't be sure if this is because guys are hitting him hard or if it's bad luck. Since the Angels wanted to deal him, though, and were willing to exchange him for what's left of Grilli, I have to assume it's the former, though.

Well interesting few weeks for Grilli, hope Frieri gets better, at least he is striking guys out still.

Total change of scenery trade for both. Interestingly enough Grilli has been striking guys how at almost the same rate over the last few years.

I guess Frieri fits the right handed setup role better than Grilli would but I truly hope they give Watson the first shot at closing if Melancon falters.

Good riddance. I loved Grilli when he was on, but looks like it's over. Even when he makes it out of an inning it seems like 2 balls go to the track. And I don't think Hurdle had the stones to keep him out of the closer's role long term.

Frieri wasn't shit for the Padres.

Frieri was good after the trade at first, putting up a 2.32 ERA in 54.1 innings with the Angels.
