Game Thread: Game 5: Los Angeles Kings @ Chicago Blackhawks, 5/28 5:00 PM, NBCSN

The Kings did the easy part in this series, they got to 3 wins. Now comes the hard part, eliminating the defending stanley cup champions.

To put into perspective:
Last year, Chicago eliminated LA in double overtime.
In 2012, Boston lost in overtime in game 7.
2011, Chicago lost in overtime in game 7 (see where this is headed?)
We'll ignore Pittsburgh, but it was a game 7.
Detroit lost to Pittsburgh in game 7 of the SCF.

BASICALLY, it's really hard. so LA will need to play the best game of the playoffs to finish the Hawks tonight.

In game 2 from the start, Chicago was attacking one on one and driving right at the net. I don't know what got them away from that, but I expect to see that same aggression/one on one skill set tonight. If the Kings can bend and not break, they may be able to get some much needed rest and advance.

I'd love to see it end on Madison Street tonight but I wouldn't be surprised to see it come back to Staples for Game 6.

The Kings have pretty much mopped up the Hawks all over the place, but they have that championship breed too. I do not expect them to go away this easily.

The Kings would have home ice advantage against the Rangers but not against Montreal. They ended up tied with the Canadiens in points but they had 2 more ROWs than the Kings. Off to the Watch Party at Hooters across the street from Staples.

Speaking of Montreal, anyone else getting a kick out of the embellishments? Plekanec got nailed for it yesterday and he Rangers scored on the ensuing PP.

Subban drew a high sticking call on Sunday when he took a stick to the face but somehow both his feet kicked up off the ice and he fell onto his knees. That one was a doozie.

I guess being cheap is just bred into that organization.

Pretty sure that was when the Toews goal was disallowed because of interference. That was the game after Kreider took out Price. Even though the kings kicked it in the play stopped at that point. Next time someone got to the net was last game with Hossa, who got checked into quick and got a penalty that started the floodgates.
