According to an Inquirer article that was posted on the swamp.

I never even thought they could do this, but we can offer an "over 35" contract, which could include a small cap hit but a big number with easy-to-hit incentives that would not count against the salary cap.

Maybe Homer is looking at something like that. We can offer a larger contract to an older player to woo him to come here. The cap hit wouldnt be terrible unless he outperforms his contract with the incentives listed.

When I read about the over 35 contract I started to think this move would not be too bad. Get him for 2 years. Definate upgrade in net. We still need another 4-5 defenseman and this would probably leave room to do it.

this would be a great trade with that contract. they were considering tim thomas who is not as good and has a 5 mil a year contract. we could sign him for ellis money cap wise.

I'd take Nabokov over another Emery type any day. Unfortunately his playoff #'s blow, but then again, so did the team defense that was in front of him.

Reg season:

GP 71
W/L 44/16
GAA 2.43
SV% .92

Playoffs:

GP 15
W/L 8/7
GAA 2.56
SV% .907

I still think Nabokov is a top 3 elite goalie in the NHL. I just didnt think the Flyers would ever go after him because he would cost too much. That 35+ contract sounds awesome. I'll take Nabokov any day of the week.

Agreed.

I also dig the idea of getting him AND and still being able to afford other moves.

Looking at Scott's posted numbers....I don't dig his overall playoff performance though.

No....I don't.

Like Nabokov, but for the exact opposite reasons, Leighton did have solid team defense in front of him for every game he played. Of course, whenever we really needed him to make the huge play and not let in soft goals....imo, he performed at a below average rate at best.

This is the point I keep trying to get all of you to look at. He is horrendous in the playoffs! I don't know if he can play well anywhere in the playoffs. I still say Vokun is the MUCH better option!

i do not. vokoun is going to cost us a guy like carter. face it, it will not happen. with nabokov, we do not have to trade anybody and his cap hit is low. besides, has vokoun done anything in the playoffs?

and i am hearing hamhuis is going to be a canuck.

said this on ESPN earlier, alot of people blame him for the poor playoff performances in SJ. That team just doesnt score in the playoffs like they do during the season. His GAA isnt that much of a difference in the playoffs. Dont look at his record. And he hasnt played with a D like this in front of him. I would approve of this move if Homer can pull it off

ok i have some new news on this.

nabokov has the same agent as pronger. this is good news because the pronger deal was done quickly. frank seravalli reported that homer did go into the stands to speak with him.

also, the flyers might think that bobrovski, backlund, and eriksson might be ready by next year. this would mean that the flyers would try to sign nabokov to a 1 year incentive based contract. backlund deserves more credit than what we give him also. there is a good article about him on broadstreethockey.com.

Nabokov got to the WCF's its not like he's a career failure. I dont know exactly what San Jose's deal is with the playoffs but I wouldnt place the blame on Nabokov.

if the flyers sign him before july 1st then they give san jose a 7th rounder next year. so if we sign him then we basically trade parent for a 7th rounder and nabokov. that sounds better.
