flyers tried to get turco

apparently the flyers offered turco a 3 year 6 million dollar contract at the draft. they got permission from the stars. turco turned it down thankfully. actually, 2 mil a year for him would be fine. i just have no idea what the flyers are trying to do. nabokov is going to get more than turco. i have no idea how much they want to spend on a goalie.

i would've been extremely happy with a 2 mil hit for turco.. 3 years might be a bit long, but a 2 mil cap hit would've been worth it

broadstreethockey.com. i think pierre lebrun reported it. although pierre lebrun gets credit for things he did not do. earlier i was watching the nhl network and ej hradek said pierre lebrun had an article about nabokov and the flyers. i am not sure if he said it although it sounded like he at least insinuated that he broke the story which tim panaccio definitely did.

he had a .913 save percentage last year on a bad team. he is an upgrade over leighton and for 2 mil. i would sign him.

hey he is not my first choice. in fact, i would be a little angry if the flyers signed him. you just have to look at it from all sides. who is better, thomas for 5 mil and a horrible contract or turco for 2 mil? turco put up a nice save percentage and it was on a bad team. if he was signed for 2 mil then the flyers could also upgrade the defense with a pretty good player.

having said that, he is not going to sign for 2 mil and i would not even want him on the team for something like 3.5 mil.

is anybody else getting frustrated that we are 3 days from free agency without a goalie? and whoever we sign will affect which other players we signed so it might be nice to go into free agency knowing what kind of player you want to go after.

i guess they have it set this way, if they go after a high priced goalie then they will try to sign cheaper defensemen or if they sign a cheap goalie then they can sign a more expensive defenseman.

also, tim p has said that the flyers like volchenkov. if we got him then i do not think i would mind having leighton because our defense would be insane.

I totally agree....the A-train on our D would be sweet as hell. Problem is he's too damn expensive. (I believe he turned down a 5 yr, 20 mil contract offer from Ottawa).

Me too. I've said this before -- if they can't get a top-shelf guy, just resign Leighton at $2M or so and use the rest of the cash on bolstering the defense. Changing the name between the pipes just for the sake of change is asinine -- but it has been the Front Office's M.O. for the last 15 years or so...
