They need a new voice and I think that they found it. Good job!

I fear that if we struggle even briefly Hakstol and Hextall are going to be slammed with the "No NHL experience" excuse.

Sure, it is a question mark. Every coach is flawed is some way. Ideally I'd like a guy with multiple cups, Olympic gold, great with kids, can handle our media, and has a system that can adjust on the fly. That will never happen. I am excited to give Hakstol time and see what he can do in the NHL. It seems like he has all the tools.

Well, all coaches have to get their start somewhere.this is one hell of a bold move by Hextall,to bring him in over all the so called "favorites".

Hell,if he doesn't work out, there will still be NHL experienced coaches available. This guys' resume is solid.

I'm with Hexy on his gut feeling about him.I would have been ok with Groulx too.

Just hoping Hextalls' off the board mentality doesn't carry over into the draft.

Get the position player you need -left winger, mobile defenceman, then take the best player available.

read the transcript of the press conference just now, sounds like Hakstol has a big focus on speed and playing fast.

that excites me.

Me too love this style when we move our feet we can play with anyone. Hopefully nobody will be gliding around the ice anymore

At least we stayed away from the recycled coach bin. Hopefully Hexy can work some magic to open a spot or 2 on defense.

Well..it's a relief having a coach in place now and which I believe he is going to succeed at this level imo.. Babcock is going to gget paid very well. Probably north of $4 million per/ well. The Sabres are that hard up for him to pay that kind of money.. yikes! I still think Detroit was and still is the better deal for him.

I guess he saw our defense and wanted to go to any other team who needed a coach instead of us.

I like this signing. It has Hextall written all over it and I believe Hextall is continuing to strike out on a fresh course that he has brought to the Flyers from day one. The two guys that may very well benefit from a new fresh voice are Giroux and Mason. They both need a new, positive approach after Berube's bullshit especially what happened to Mason. I expect Giroux and Mason to have a renewed year forthcoming. I think we may have something here in Hakstol.

Anyone wanting to know what Hakstol's teams play like should look at the Lightning. Speed, in all three zones. Puck support in all three zones. Deceptively difficult defense to attack because of overlapping coverages.
He has had teams that are not as mobile as a group and has adjusted to that. His preference is skating/swarming play.

Like I stated before, we may just have a really good coach and I am sure Hextall will get the players he needs to succeed as well. It may take some time but I believe Hextall is assembling a team that is going to be pretty darn good.

After the fiasco with Berube and Mason and his personal coach and the Flyers last year, Hakstol's honesty may be the tonic this team needs. Good read JBM73.
