The key is, they have to be able to re-sign him and at a decent price - other than that, this is a good deal - they're probably trading Mesz now so if they can get a 2nd round pick or somewhere in that neighborhood, it's basically Mesz/2nd/3rd for A-Mac/2nd - it also frees up cap space for them right now and in the offseason, I would think Kimmo retires so they'll have money to re-sign A-Mac

Also, A-Mac played with Mark Streit in NYI so it's a good fit - and it's not that fair to judge A-Mac on his play with a terrible team like the Islanders - with a team that's a little bit better, he should be a better player

It makes no sense. We have an expensive d-core, we aren't seriously competing, we have a thin prospect pool, and Macdonald has already rejected $4mil from the isles

To me, this is a good move. His cap hit is low, he leads the league in shot blocking, logs well over 25 minutes per game and has past experience playing with Streit.
