This just show how awesome they have been at drafting, or stealing from the Chiefs.

Whether they sign Suh or not they will have a hard time keeping all 4 of those players when their rookie contracts run out. Right now Donald, Peters, Goff, and Gurley count for 5 million less than Stafford against the cap. It is safe to assume each one of those players will get a contract that is at least top 10 for their position.

So once the rookie contracts run out those 4 would account for a very minimum of 63.7 million instead of 21. They are wise to go all in and try and win a Superbowl now, but they have some difficult decisions to make in the future.

It would be nice to draft well enough to be in a similar bind, but aside from Donald the Lions had been winning to much to be in a position for a player like those. The biggest difference is when the Lions picked that early so often the rookie scale was broken and the rookie contracts crippled the teams cap.

The Rams just sucked at the right time. Just think of the talent the Lions could have afforded if Stafford, Calvin and Suh had slotted rookie numbers instead of the castrating money they could hold the Lions ransom for.
