Idk about that on errant shots...not a lot, but enough to cause him problems.

From my observation when Rory is finding the short grass with his driver he has a lot of shorter clubs in and can attack...we've seen him blow fields away when he's on many times, and we've seem him struggle when his driver is not on.

Last year Rory was 6 in GIR ....but ranked over 100 in driving accuracy.

There is no struggling with hitting just 59% of the fairways.

and on a course like this weekend it was imperative that they hit the fairway!

Nobody is getting any credit from me for hitting fairways at this event.

1 fairway was 100 yards wide. That's right ...an entire football field wide.

I'm mean really ....

I'd rather be hitting out of the fairway on that course than the fesque (spelling?)

It wasn't hitting the fairway that was the problem, it was staying on the fairway.

if only he could put though.....................
Agreed Packer his putting is his Achilles heel. During the last 6 years his average position on tour from 3' 120th,4' 111th, 5' 120th, 6' 95th, and 7' 108th

Johnson threw that tourney away. Plan and simple. Guy gagged it. I felt sorry for him though.

I agree as well. He has no excuse for his putting on the back 9 yesterday. The greens rolled well enough for several players to make huge leaps up the leaderboard and if he'd have putted like any decent low handicapper or every other Pro out there he would be the U.S Open Champion right now.

I don't know about others, but I thought this was one of the most entertaining tournaments I've seen in a long time. The course held its own

All the talk about Spieth and DJ.. What about Louey Roosterheizen? :kk: Had to watch Tiger blow up for 2 rounds and shot 77 in his 1st round, then follows up with 66,66,67!!??

To me that was more impressive than anyone this week, including Spieth.

Shooting 77 like that and then not giving up, while beating a course like that for 3 rounds after shooting himself ALMOST out of a tourney? That's redonk

Oosthuizen had one hell of a back nine on Sunday and was one missed putt on 17 from a probable playoff. So much for the course being too rough or the greens being too bumpy. Louis winning (possible if he makes the putt on 17) would have been a great story.

It was fantastic but Ricky winning the Players was better and better by a lot.
Ricky had to play the 17th Island green 3 times on Sunday and birdie it every time.
Drama on top of drama. It is the best finish of the Players Championship ever.

It was a far more satisfyingly ending too. It was all about the 1 guy winning it and not the pain of seeing 1 guy lose it.

I felt really bad for him when it happened, and also bad for Spieth because he wouldnt be able to enjoy his win they way he should.

I knew, when Day asked Johnson if he should putt out, and it took Johnson about a minute to answer, "Uh, yeah, uh, I dont care" that he was already stressing over the putt. I just knew he wouldnt make it. Then on the birdie attempt, he didnt have a chance. Just had that vibe going for him, and it was sad to watch.

If he had Day to hold off on his last putt, it would have given Johnson a little time, after missing the eagle, to collect himself a bit while Day hit his last one. Might have helped.

I also took note of the exchange between Jason and Justin on the Aussies' last putt. It seems that Day was aware that if he finished first, Dustin could celebrate his pending win without interruption and was more than happy to finish up and get out of the way.

Gotta figure that with Jason Day basically showing DJ the line on his putt that he would get it close enough to force a playoff, no? :noidea:

I thought that at first, but then I got the opposite feeling: that Day was offering to wait, in case DJ missed the eagle attempt...But who knows what the intention was, guess it's neither here nor there.

It really is hard believe this actually happened.

DJ has a 12 foot putt, eagles wins it ..a birdie and he's in an 18 hole playoff.
And for added insurance, his playing partner gives him the most important thing he needs to know
to avoid a disaster. the speed.

It's funny to me that people enjoy watching Tiger implode but not too many people enjoyed watching Dustin Johnson implode. I guess it's because Tiger was better before his injury?

He booms long drives and his iron play is stellar but his putting has never been topnotch.
