I knew Dustin Johnson was a big hitter but how long has he been so far ahead of the pack?

Everybody on the average driving distance chart is no more than yard better than the guy behind him. But Dustin Johnson tops his guy by 10 yards? (for 2015)

His average is 317, the next guy is 307.

Talk about a guy who has recovered nicely from his set back.

He looked up really quickly and saw Paulina standing there!

But wow, how do you 3 putt there? I mean, I personally would because I suck at putting but I certainly didn't expect him to do that

Every time I have seen him, that has been his MO. He can drive the shit out of the ball, but then can't putt to save his life. It's like Shaq or any other Center in the NBA, it just amazes me that with the kind of money they are making (and missing out on) they can't afford to put in some practice on putting (or FT shooting)

When I saw where he ended up there on 18 I instantly didn't like it. Above the hole breaking left to right, huge slope downhill. What a tough putt that was for eagle.

If he would have made that it would have been one of the best finishes in a Major in a while.

It was, 3 jack from 12' sounds really bad...basically it was a lag putt to ensure a 4...if you go for it...the comebacker was always going to be tough.

Johnson threw that tourney away. Plan and simple. Guy gagged it. I felt sorry for him though.

Agreed, plan and simple.

A touring pro 2 putts from 12' 100 times out of 100. But...that eagle was the kind of putt that if you make a run at the win, you bring 3 putt into play and that's what he did.

Not the bravest move I know, but I would've lagged it and taken my chances in a playoff.

Glad he went for the eagle...still surprised he didn't make the birdie putt though.

That's the kind of choke job some golfers never recover from. There was another one like this in like '91 :noidea: and that player never sniffed a major win again for the rest of his career.

So happy for Spieth, but really really feel bad for how Dustin lost it and how it is going to impact his game going forward.

This was one was more in your face because it happened on the 72nd hole and it happened yesterday, but Rory imploding at the Masters, or Phil in '06 had to be tough to get over as well.

Talent will have more to do with it I think...DJ is so long that I think he'll be in position again. That's kind of why I think Rory's run at the top will be relatively short (maybe a decade or so)...his game is based around power and that driver...there will always be another guy that will come along hitting it longer.

Yes, which is exactly what Spieth did on his 18th hole. I was thinking DJ would do the same thing, to ensure the playoff, and then at least give himself a chance to win in extras.

Yep...DJ had stones to go for the eagle...have to hand that to him, but from above the hole like that...you want to get it there, but you have to protect the next putt.

Power only compliments Rory's true talent .. ball striking. That swing of his does not produce a lot of errant shots.

"Rory's run at the top will be relatively short (maybe a decade or so)"

lol ..I think Rory would give a free castle in Ireland if you could guarantee he would stay at the top for next 10 years.

Idk about that on errant shots...not a lot, but enough to cause him problems.

From my observation when Rory is finding the short grass with his driver he has a lot of shorter clubs in and can attack...we've seen him blow fields away when he's on many times, and we've seem him struggle when his driver is not on.

He might not be #1 in the world for 10 yrs, but he's what...26? Should be in all the majors, WGC events etc. for the next 10 yrs.

The greens on that course were bumpy.

All the talk about Spieth and DJ.. What about Louey Roosterheizen? :kk: Had to watch Tiger blow up for 2 rounds and shot 77 in his 1st round, then follows up with 66,66,67!!??

To me that was more impressive than anyone this week, including Spieth.

Shooting 77 like that and then not giving up, while beating a course like that for 3 rounds after shooting himself ALMOST out of a tourney? That's redonk
