Martin looks like to be more talented than Butler and they view the nickel CB position very highly in the defense. THey probably also felt that there wasn't that big of a drop off from JMS to Stromberg. What puzzled me is that there was no TE added in this draft. Must have alot of faith in Thomas. The oline looks better than last year so that should help Howell.
this o/line might make it to avg , as for butler he has speed and versatility and he played well in his audition . looks to be a wasted pick if quan pans out

thats fine , they can love martin , but that makes the butler pick seem like a waste . you have curl , you have forrest , you have reeves , you have butler and now quan . the top 3 are locks (reaves is an all pro ST player ) , you have fuller , danzler johnson BSJ stick figure at CB

maybe we have no intention to re-signing Curl.

Washington's grades were all over the place throughout the draft, starting with their selection of Mississippi State CB Emmanuel Forbes over Oregon CB Christian Gonzalez. Most people like the player, but had him rated later in the first, while Gonzalez was Top 10 on some boards. That didn’t match Washington’s board, they had him as the second-best CB in the draft.

in our front office eyes it was a scheme fit, by value it was a reach

Day 2 was mixed again because of where the players were picked, and other needs that could have been addressed by higher-rated players. Washington shocked a lot of people by double-dipping into the secondary to draft Illinois DB Jartavius “Quan” Martin with the 47th overall pick. Quan was considered a 3rd rounder by many people, and fit the pattern of Washington drafting players higher than their consensus rankings. The Commanders finally addressed the offensive line in the 3rd round with Arkansas C Ricky Stromberg, who has a shot at being the starter this season.

same as stick figure , it was a scheme pick and a reach based on value

Day 3 is usually where Ron Rivera and Martin Mayhew raise their overall draft grades, and this year seems to fit that pattern again. They started the day by drafting Utah G/T Braeden Daniels, then they immediately started working the phones to move back up to take Clemson EDGE KJ Henry. Washington released J.D. McKissic, but didn’t draft his replacement. Instead they went for some Brian Robinson insurance with Kentucky’s Chris Rodriguez Jr in the 6th round. Washington didn’t help their overall grade with their last pick, but did find a Shaka Toney depth replacement with Louisville’s Andre Jones.

The highest grade Washington received was a B- and they got two Ds for their 2023 draft class.

that is from the "experts " the experts you trust over anyone else

i agree, but if Sweat and CY has great season this year, that is where the money is going.
if the team is smart and all play well you retain them all and stop chasing the latest flavor of the day FA . we are slated to have 76 mil in cap space , could be near 100 mil when the revenue for next year is added up . last yr it was near 20 mil

I think they are delirious if they don’t believe there was a bigger drop off from JMS to Stromberg than Quan to Butler.

TE is such an average position in terms of production. Seriously, look at the difference between Kelce and #2-5. And no…it is not scheme.

Pretty avg draft imo. Over all grade C. RR is a pretty avg coach just as our team is fairly avg as it has been the past 4 years. Therefore, avg grade.

FWIW obviously Martin is ranked higher on RR board b/c of the style of defense that we play.
