I suspect this Snell IL trip is more about getting him time to work his mechanics and then get him a couple AAA starts.

Lets hope. Dudes looking more and more like a second half piece now. OTOH, it does potentially open up a spot for Cobb in a couple weeks if Snell is still rehabbing. In the interim I'd think Mason Black will get the call.

I wouldn’t be opposed to Roupp getting a call or two. He has always been a starter, and hasn’t been horrible in the bigs.

Black should get the call up, unless Cobb is ready to go within 1 or 2 starts (which is probably unlike at this point in time).

Black isn’t on the 40, though. Let’s give the 40 guys who may be ready first dibs. That equals Roupp.

Is he though? He started off well but was a bit rocky before getting sent down. Plus, he's been used as a reliever, after missing most of the 2nd half of 2023 in AA. I'd argue that there aren't any 40 man options that look good for a spot in the rotation. Roupp needs time to stretch out, in my opinion. Otherwise, he's just like Ryan Walker with possibly another inning or 2 to give.

I don't think Cobb is eligible to come off the IL until late May.

With the days off this and next week, we won't need a fifth starter until 5.4 in Philly. I'd imagine they carry Roupp until then. 8 games to figure out if that start will be Roupp, Black, Jefferies, or Seymour.

Or, another opener.

Glad Rodriguez made it up. He did not look good last year, so much so that I wondered if he would lose his 40 man roster spot. But he didn't and he came out of the gate strong in AAA this year.

I still have absolutely no idea what to expect. He is the black hole of prospects. Never any mention of him anywhere.

They thought enough of him to move him to low A ball in 2021 after not pitching well in 2019 in the AZL. He looked good in San Jose's bullpen that year so the Giants moved him up to Eugene the next year, as a starter/opener. He did pretty decently there, so they promoted him in season to Richmond, where he was back in the bullpen. He looked poor there and in Sacramento that year. He looked better in Richmond last year but got lit up with Sacramento.
But yes, outside of that, I don't know much about him - his pitching arsenal, his strengths and weaknesses, what the prospect evaluators see in him, etc. I guess we'll get first hand looks (at least through the TV/computer) soon.
