Recent rumours as the :ss: turns...The Philadelphia Flyers are trying to make a trade for Phoenix Coyotes defenceman Keith Yandle.

The Flyers are offering Danny Briere as trade bait. Briere currently has 25 points in 33 games. Briere has 3 more years at 6.5 million.

Kieth Yandle currently has 22 points in 38 games and makes 5.25 million till 2015-16.

It might take Briere plus a prospect to get Yandle out of Phoenix. Philly is looking to make a move so stay tuned.....
The question is would you pull the trigger...???

I would really like Yandle, but I do know about Briere's playoff play.

It would help right away, but maybe not in the spring.

LTIR Pronger to get cap space then trade Schenn and a pick for Yandle. Book it.

Unless Pronger is gone forever I don't make a big trade like that. I'd be happy bringing in a guy like gill or one of the canes dmen. This way they don't lose any major prospects or players...the teams good enough to win a cup so why fuck with it?

Schenn is irrelevant right now. I'd trade him for a stud D-man in a heartbeat.

Would you take Yandle over either Suter or Weber? I wouldn't. Briere will eventually wake up. His playoff performance alone I would think he stays here.

Maybe at this instant but its a long season and from a franchise perspective he may end up being your 2nd line center moving forward. It all keys on Pronger because if he comes back you don't need another top 4 dman unless you let Carle go when his contracts up or beforehand?

I'm betting on Timonen retiring after this year. We're going to need another top 4 guy.

Really why would he retire when he's still playing at such a high level? Unless he wants to play a few years back home.....I just don't see it. I also don't see them moving Schenn when his value is low due to his injuries. DB is possible but it makes me nervous as he's money in the playoffs.

id consider briere and a pick for yandle.. yandle is quite good and the flyers have enough depth at center to make the move i think

i do worry that playoff time they're relying kinda heavily on timonen, jagr, hartnell, and talbot as the veteran leadership though if they do that.. in thinking about it, they'd be the only 4 over what, 25? holy young guns.

hell no to moving schenn for yandle. hell no.

and pronger is done. i'd bet way more than i have on it.

JVR being clutch in the playoffs is a myth that would really help me make this trade.

I agree with awaz, Pronger is done. I dont even slightly consider him being back next season or ever again. Not in a real NHL game anyway. When you write off a guy from games 6/7 months in the future, and when he is 37 and has a bad back and knees, you shouldnt count on him making any kind of impact.

I'd make that trade in a second. We definitely need another stud d-man and if it only costs us briere and a pick I'm doing it if I'm homer. I doUbt we'll be hurting that much for production & defense is the key to championships on my eyes. Plus we'd retain all our young cornerstones and between some cap relief of dealing Briere and Prongers ltir $ we could re-sign Jagr or go after Suter in the offseason.

I just looked and if that trade was made and pronger went on ltir we'd have around 11m in cap space to re-sign Harry z, sestito(he's way better then shitty), Jagr & get another d-man(if they don't resign Carle). That could be fucking amazing.

Just realized Vorachek would also need to be re-signed so it may be him or Jagr depending on what homer wants to do for a 3rd pair

my only concern with doing something like that is i'm not sure how studly yandle is in the d-zone.. offensively he's great, but i dont know about his d, i haven't watched enough of him

still.. i'd prefer doing that then trading schenn, coot, or jvr to try for weber or suter.. not sure if the yotes would go for it though.. i suppose it is a lot less salary though, because isn't briere's contract heavily front loaded?

edit: it is.. he's got 5 mil next year, then 3, then 2.. so that could make a lot of sense for the yotes when they're trying to save money, but stay above the cap floor.. and get a pretty solid player for less $$ salary wise.. in 3 years they'll be paying briere (potential for 60ish points i'd say) 2 million, and getting a 6.5 cap hit.. that's a dream player for them

I used cap geek for my estimate, but I just realized it is in fact wrong. I't should be something like this.

- Our projected cap space for next season is 5.5m(without Vorachek, Jagr, Carle, Harry Z, Sestito & Bourdon signed)
- If we trade Briere for Yandle we would save 1.25m a year in cap hit.
- If Pronger goes on LTIR we save 5m a year cap wise.
- I didn't include waiving Shelley(1.1m) & Walker(1.7m)

That would actually give us 14.55m in cap to work with, not factoring in a cap raise which will prob be another 1-2m. If these numbers all held up our team next year could look something like this...

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / James Van Riemsdyk ($4.250m) / Scott Hartnell ($4.200m)
Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m)
Matt Read ($0.900m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Jakub Voracek ($3.750m)
Harry Zolnierczyk ($0.900m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m) / Tom Sestito ($0.750m)
/ Jaromir Jagr ($4.500m)

DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m)
Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) / Andreas Lilja ($0.737m)
Marc-Andre Bourdon ($0.875m) / Keith Yandle ($5.250m)
Erik Gustafsson ($0.900m)

GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.666m) / Sergei Bobrovsky ($1.750m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,541,944; BONUSES: $3,555,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $2,758,056

I think these numbers are mostly correct, we'd still have some cap space and options. If they didn't re-sign Jagr or if he/Timonen retired we could go after Suter(or another top FA) as well. I think this move makes so much sense in the long term. Homer just needs to work it out without giving up a 1st rounder this year(since it is supposed to be exceptionally deep in d-men & I'd like to draft 1-2 to develope).

Prolly true. I think you could probably name 1 guy who would waive an NTC to go to Phoenix, and that's Doan who already plays for them.

If Phoenix moves to Quebec though, I think there would be a shot he goes home to finish his career

Briere can't be all that happy now. I mean he's not a #1 guy, he isn't being fed the line mates he wants, his pp time has dwindled down and he's playing horrible(although he is putting up some points). He may welcome a change of scenery, I'm not sure if Phoenix is that but didn't he start his career there and enjoy it? There are ways to get guys to waive their ntc's. I'd still be calling Toronto and asking about their d-men while offering Briere to start.

I'm not saying the trade would happen, but if it did it would be great for the Flyers in the long run.
