Morning Briefing: Mets send Thor to mound after sweeping success....

NEW YORK -- Noah Syndergaard indisputably has been the ace of the New York Mets so far this season, going 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA through three starts.

Thor looks to build on that success as the Mets return home to face the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m. ET on Monday. Syndergaard opposes right-hander Raisel Iglesias.

Syndergaard has 29 strikeouts in 20 innings. That’s the second most K's through three appearances in a season in franchise history, trailing only Pedro Martinez’s 30 in 2005.

Syndergaard is the first major league pitcher since Roger Clemens in 2005 to allow one run or fewer and strike out at least eight batters in each of three starts to begin a season, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Noah Syndergaard is bidding to become the first major league pitcher since Randy Johnson in 1995 to open a season with four straight starts allowing one run or fewer while striking out at least eight in each outing, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Yoenis Cespedes remains sidelined for a third straight game with a bruise to his upper right leg.

Jay Bruce has been placed on paternity leave by the Reds and is due to miss the entire series.

Matt Harvey will receive his 2015 Players Choice Award as the 2015 National League Comeback Player of the Year before the game.

Whoo. Looking good early, although I don't expect this homer surge to continue.

A little concerned about d'Arnaud...is he ever going to throw anybody out? And he's constantly hurt.

Conforto making the most of starting every day. He should have a solid season (knock on wood).

Hopefully Travis is okay....he does seem to get banged up more than the norm for some reason.
Freak injury (sore shoulder) last night with Td'A?? To be fair, teams have scouted and are running on Thor due to his long wind up and release motion...those SB's were mostly on him. The Mets/Warthen are gonna work with him on that. I guess that's his only drawback....and it'll be resolved.

Conforto is the real deal at the plate & w/ the glove. TC wants to protect him from lefties and to give Lagares & DeAza some AB's....but that probably won't wash if he keeps raking. Nice problem to have tbh.

The Captain still has a propensity for looking lost at the plate.....hopefully he shakes that off soon.

Duda is da Man.

Cespy should be back today or tomorrow...

Cabrera is smooth on defense....and his bat is waking up a bit too...

They may have to send Flores down to AAA just so he gets regular daily AB's and playing time in the field. Hate to see him sitting/rotting on the bench. 1 start a week ain't gonna cut it.

Dammit!
Get well and heal up, Travis....

Mets' put D'Arnaud on DL with shoulder strain

Zack Wheeler resumed throwing on Tuesday, exactly two weeks after undergoing a surgical procedure to remove an undissolved stitch from his original Tommy John surgery. Wheeler threw on flat ground at a distance of 65 feet. He remains on target to return to the majors near July 1. Wheeler was placed on the 60-day DL on Tuesday in a procedural move to clear a 40-man roster spot for the addition of backup catcher Rene Rivera.

Morning Briefing: Mets' roll continues upon return to Citi Field

NEW YORK -- Here are the lineups for Tuesday's 7:10 p.m. ET game between the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets at Citi Field.

With Yoenis Cespedes out of the lineup for a fourth straight day due to an upper right leg bruise, Michael Conforto starts against a left-hander for the first time since his major-league debut on July 24 of last season. Conforto has been placed in the cleanup slot for the second time in his career. He also batted there on Sept. 4, 2015.

Lucas Duda gets an off day against a lefty, with Wilmer Flores manning 1B tonight.

Kevin Plawecki starts at catcher, with Travis d'Arnaud landing on the disabled list with a right rotator cuff strain.

Bartolo Colon aims for career win No. 220. That would break a tie with Pedro Martinez for second among Dominican-born pitchers. Juan Marichal ranks first with 243.

The Mets have won a franchise-record nine straight games against Cincinnati. The franchise record for consecutive wins against one opponent is 15 -- against the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1986 and '87.

I read somewhere that the Mets should move Travis from behind the plate if they want him to last. Gonna post when I find it...
