in everything i've read about preparations for 2014 i've not read a word about their biggest positional need yet. that is catching! they have a proven flop in flowers and phegley who didn't show anything last year that might give one hope. this is like the most important position there is! W T H!

I wonder if there is any chance they will go get john buck. they don't have a mlb level catcher imo. buck is decent and has some pop in his bat

i wouldn't see that as any kind of improvement over what they have ... maybe worse considering his horrible walk to k ratio. he's just older (34 in july) and would cost more ... but it is something you would expect of this team (and that's not good)!

no to buck!

I think they are going to give those 2 one more year (2014) to see if they can become decent players. I don't think they intend to contend in 2014, nor should they. The plan seems to be shed the deadweight (mostly done, all that they can, can't do anything with Dunn or Danks), then use 2014 as a building year to play rookies and youngsters, keep acquiring youth, etc. Then in 2015 with Dunn off the books I think they make their move with a couple of signings and actually try to win.

If neither catcher has turned into anything useful by next year I believe they will then trade for or sign someone competent.
