Marte lead off the bottom of the 1st with his 3rd walk of the young season.

Marte looks to be committed a bit to plate discipline this year. That might prove helpful to him as the season goes on.

Pedro got his first home run of the season. I feel like it's earlier than usual this year. He's been going the other way a lot, too, early in the season, which I think is a good sign.

Cutch strands two, but he put a good swing on that ball. Hopefully he gets going soon.

And we're really making Miller work, despite not putting up a lot of runs. Hopefully we can start to capitalize.

Pirates had 2 straight innings end on a broken bat soft liner double play, to end the game yesterday and in the first inning today. Crazy.

Martin made a tremendous play on that bunt, too. I'm just now finally watching the highlights. I missed most of the game today, unfortunately.

I hope ishikawa continues to hit. I am very fond of Cole. He looks pretty good even when he's not on top of his game. Pedro had an incredible game. It wasn't just 2 homeruns. He also beat the throw on a double play, stole second and beat another throw at the plate.

I think Russell Martin is the best free agent pick-up that we've signed in my lifetime. He has made a huge difference for us. He is just shy of being an all star at the position but we had been so bad at the position for so long...

Agreed on all points. Ishikawa could be a huge boost for us. Even if he just keeps it up for a while.

Snider also looks a little better to start the season. If nothing else, he's at least going to all fields after being pretty exclusively a pull hitter last year. He may never produce the power we hoped for, but that should at least help him get on base more frequently.

As far as I can tell, there is no home feed.

But either way, this one didn't go as well as we might have hoped.

Pretty good first outing for Volquez. Jay turned around his inside fastball, but I don't even know if you could call it a mistake pitch, it was pretty well on the edge. Overall, control was pretty good.

Hopefully Watson can keep the Cards from taking the lead.

The book is now closed on Volquez after Watson handles Adams with no problems.

Volquez was solid today. Hopefully he has turned the corner under Searage and can make starts like this regularly cause with Taillon getting TJ we'll definitely need him. Now we just need to get to Wainwright or the Cards pen and take this W.
