The most intelligent use of steroids is to aide recovery from injury.

It should be an acceptable use, but the league isn't medically or scientifically smart enough to properly use the Healthcare industry to benefit their players.

he may end up backing up somebody.

If the Niners lose Darnold, I wonder if they'd bring back Jimmy. I really doubt it, but Niner fans would love it. However, I wonder if that would affect Purdy negatively. I feel certain that Jimmy G wouldn't threaten him at all, but who knows? My wish would be that Darnold stays. Jimmy G is made of glass at this point.

It does sound like a less severe case. I thought that the PED suspension was usually 4 games. This one is only 2.

Jimmy G does kinda look like Lou Ferrigno a little bit.

only a team with a decent line should sign him cause of his injury history.i don, t think the suspension will deter any teams.

Yeah, true. If he signs as a backup, the suspension hardly matters because he might not play any games next season anyway. If he signs as a starter, two games without him isn't a big deal.

Shouldn't the thread be entitled "Garoppolo Era over in Vegas"?

He's probably headed for a backup role this season or a bridge type QB role.

@mrschaney is stuck in 1989. I actually didn't know that the Raiders were from Oakland until they moved back to Oakland. As a kid in the 1980's, I knew them as the Los Angeles Raiders, and I knew that Bo Jackson was unstoppable in Tecmo Bowl. I knew Howie Long and Marcus Allen as LA Raider legends.

When they moved back, it suddenly made sense why some friends and family rooted for the Raiders.

A guy at a company I worked for was working as a contractor in Saudi Arabia. He made a lot, and he took a vacation in Thailand. He got sick and bought some over-the-counter cough medicine there. He should have tossed the leftover medicine. When he got back to Saudi Arabia, they busted him and put him in prison for a year.

The NFL's reasoning on this one looks similar. Garoppolo had a prescription, but failed to get a "therapeutic waiver" for it.

He was a good QB some years back but injuries have taken their toll, particularly on his mobility. He's probably a bottom-end starter or bridge QB at this point. $22.5M per year was top end of his value going into 2023 and he's not worth that now. I don't blame the Raiders for exercising a contract clause void for substances. 1 more team looking for a QB and 1 more bottom-end starter on the market. It probably boosts the market price for better QB options just a little bit.

He was one overthrow away from Super Bowl MVP

I don't think he played well that day which was why the 49ers moved to upgrade from him. It was said the 49ers got to the Super Bowl despite him rather than because of him. All that said he was a good QB earlier in his career.

I could see NE going after him? That would allow them to trade #3 and get a huge cache of picks. Move back a few spots and take the best OL or WR with that pick. Possibly double dip on the same position with their 2nd pick? Deep class at WR & OL. Can get some good value.

He'd be a bridge and the only thing that scares me is there is no real top QB prospects in the 25 draft.
