Lots of choices on this one...to many for a poll.

Freddy Mercury - Queen.

His vocal range, and power added to the fact this man was acutely aware that it's about entertainment and always put on a great show have him at the top of my list.

Imagine that.....the gay guy votes for the other gay guy.

With such a general question, I can understand why many people picked Freddie Mercury but my choice has to be Robert Plant. One of the best singers of all-time. You gotta be a great singer if you want to match up with Jimmy Page and John Bonham's legendary loudness. He even had a big influence on some of the people mentioned in this thread like Freddie Mercury, Axl Rose, Sammy Hagar and Chris Cornell.

...and when Mick was on, he was a force. Sammy Hagar was full-throttle too. The dude could sing Eddie's solos. Amazing.

VH was 10x better with DLR than an overrated Hagar.

DLR was the man......

Wendy Williams of the Plasmatics. I know what you're saying, they suck. But hey, did your rock star go to the trouble to fuck himself with an axe handle in concert for your entertainment?

I would have to go with Robert Plant. However, there are many great ones, and here are a couple more who haven't been mentioned. Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, and David Coverdale of DP & Whitesnake. And don't forget Ann Wilson of Heart. As for the David Lee Roth fans, I hope you aren't picking him for his singing abilities.

Not JUST for his ability to sing, but yes his ability to sing......VH went way downhill when he left.
Sammy Hagar is just another voice in the rock genre......

Steve Miller
Tom Petty

Ian Hunter
Bryan Ferry
Mike Patton
Wayne Coyle
2 guys I just totally don't get why people like them. I don't mean to sound like I am trying to be a dick but their music annoys the hell out of me. I just don't find it appealing at all but that doesn't mean I don't respect what other think of them. They just aren't my cup of tea.

The only correct answer is Waylon Jennings.

If we're restricted to just rock, then it's Ronnie Van Zant and it ain't close.
