Asche is the more versatile and better hitter while Ruf is out of the Pat Burrell mold, so far.

I think Ruf is the better hitter. Nothing wrong with being out of the Pat Burrell mode. Ruf will never be a 140 RBI guy like Howard was because he's a different kind of hitter.

Burrell mode is lot of homers and strikeouts. That's the way it looks to me. Asche makes better contact and may hit for a better average. The whole thong has to play out longer though.

I hope the little brain-dead weasle is pissed Four4four. The sonabitch tries his damnest to eff this team up and when he does get it right by default (like the proverbial blind squirrel finding a nut), the idiot is still tempted to do something stupid.

Asche is a keeper and I hope Dom Brown gets rolling. Franco should be the next guy called up from the farm. Now all we need to be fixed is the mess in the bullpen.

Burrell mode is also a lot of walks, more pitches thrown by the opposition, higher OBP. But you're right it has to play out longer. So far I like them both though. If Asche can play a solid third base he doesn't even have to hit as well as Ruf to be worth keeping-he just has to be better offensively than any other option they have, which he certainly appears to be.

They've tried Franco out at 1st base. He's played 8 games there this year.
