FOX NFL Analyst Troy Aikman Shreds Network’s Hiring Of Skip Bayless

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback understandably is unhappy about FOX’s decision to hire noted sports loudmouth Skip Bayless, whose new show debuted Monday.

Aikman, FOX’s lead NFL color commentator, ripped the network for hiring Bayless after his contract with ESPN expired.

“To say I’m disappointed in the hiring of Skip Bayless would be an enormous understatement,” Aikman told SI media writer Richard Deitsch in an interview with Sports Illustrated. “Clearly, (Fox Sports president of national networks) Jamie Horowitz and I have a difference of opinion when it comes to building a successful organization. I believe success is achieved by acquiring and developing talented, respected and credible individuals, none of which applies to Skip Bayless.”

That’ll make for an awkward water-cooler discussion, huh? Aikman and Bayless do have a history, so the Hall of Famer’s criticism isn’t out of nowhere.

Bayless, who covered the Cowboys during Aikman’s playing days, claimed in a book he wrote that Aikman was gay. Aikman obviously hasn’t forgot, which probably goes a long way in explaining his rather outspoken critique of the Bayless hire.

FOX reportedly gave Bayless a contract worth more than $5 million per year, in addition to a $4 million signing bonus.

Skip Bayless is an anemic 5' 10"

So at least, he could take 5' 7" Jim Rome.

But that's it.

Funny how total non-athletes critique athletes and get millions for it?

Skip is good just for shock value like Rodgers said. They're selling their soul for ratings.

This prenotion that sports critiques have to be athletes to make a credible judgement is absolute ludicrous.
If they're right about their analysis it doesn't make a difference what their size is or their athletic backround. If you're right you're right and if you're wrong you're wrong.

Will never watch his show.

Horse face, marble mouth seems like an odd choice as cohost.

To illustrate Aikman's point, I give you Exhibit A of the "talent, respect and credibility" of Skip Bayless:

I'm no Bayless fan but I find it hilarious Aikman said all this when his broadcast partner is Joe Buck.

ESPN's first take with whomever took over (can't even remember the guys name) was watched by 320% more people on ESPN2 than Skips new show on Fox Sports.

Max Kellerman (who also previously left ESPN for Fox's money). Fox Sports likes to throw money at people while they are negotiating with ESPN, only to have their shows fail and return to ESPN.

Agreed.

Buck is one of the biggest tools in sports.

Although Aikman isn't wrong, because Bayless is a glorified shock jock, Buck is one of the most insufferable, arrogant pieces of shit I've ever had to listen to.

All Skip will ever be remembered for is sucking Tom Brady's D every day and having a pure hatred for Aaron Rodgers while making billions of excuses for Jay Cutler for his ineptitude.

Thank you, it was Kellerman I was thinking of, Couldn't remember his name! Fox Sports doesn't care about money apparently, they just want the initial shock value to get people to switch to Fox. Though ESPN themselves are doing a pretty good job on their own turning people away from them.
