Such a great guy.

I know it's probably not going to happen, but I wouldn't mind seeing Raul play his final game in an M's uni either this year or next.

You may get your wish, theses are the types of moves that our FO like to make.

Please, don't lump me in with the Mariners front office for saying this about Ibanez. It's purely sentimental on my part, and since it's a completely lost year, I wouldn't mind it. Same with next year unless the M's get completely new owners and new front office, or somehow, Z (or whoever the GM is next year) articulates a real MLB offense for the first time in a decade.

I'm not lumping you in with the FO, but your second sentiment is exactly what this front office feeds off of when considering moves. They'll sign Ibanez thinking that it will satisfy the fan base, and to some it will. Overall it will be a bad move because he isn't producing any better than our AAAA players already are. Like you, I would love to see him retire a Mariner because that's exactly what he is; though a one-day contract is the kind of resigning that needs to happen.

yeah, one-day contract is probably what we'll get...if he decides to retire an m, anyway.

Sad to hear that they cut him. He had a surprisingly productive year for the Mariners last year hitting 29 HRs in 124 games despite being 41 and playing in Safeco Field. I was opposed to signing him after the year he had with the Yankees, but he turned out to be a really nice surprise.

That being said, he's now 42 and only hitting .157 with 3 HRs in 57 games. I'd love to be able to say "bring him back, he couldn't be worse than any of the other losers we are throwing out there.", but I can't. I don't think Raul has anything left in him.

It's a shame he didn't become a major league regular until 29-30 years old. Just like Jamie Moyer, he won't be a hall of famer, but he is a testament to what hard work and determination can do for you. Really classy player, wish things would've turned out better for him in Los Angeles.

Making him a roving coach like Dan Wilson.
