And this is why Joel Embiid is so good for the NBA

Randomly walks onto a court in Philly and plays one on one with a random guy who obviously gets smoked.

That guy is going to have that story for the rest of his life.

I really like Embiid, but there is a reason why NBA players don't do this.

Embiid doesn't know this guy from Adam. What if he tries a little too hard and undercuts him? Far too much risk playing on a random court with strangers. That doesn't even begin to consider Embiid's injury history.

I will say this though. Those who question Embiid's toughness and desire to play are wrong. Embiid is closer to reckless than soft. He needs to be protected from himself.

Because he was jogging down the street and decided to get on a court and have some fun with random dudes.

How many NBA players would do that today?

Beasley would.

It's cool... no doubt.

But it's not particularly smart... if he busted an ACL doing that I assume most Philly fans would have a brain aneurysm.

Pretty cool thing that he did.

I agree with @tlance that it wasn't the smartest thing to do.

But still pretty cool.

It's happened enough to where this isnt an isolated incident.
Well I'm not going to say it never happens. But I don't recall the last time it happened.

Fair points. I wouldn't want him doing that all the time. But a single play or maybe 2 is a pretty small risk.

The most recent example that I can remember is a story from when KD was still in OKC.

I guess he sent out a tweet that he was looking for something to do one night and some college guys tweeted that they were playing flag football and KD showed up and joined them.

There may be other examples, but that's the only one I remember that's close to recent.

Back in the 80's and 90's there was an outdoor court in Laguna Beach where NBA players would occasionally show up in the off-season to play. That's the only other example I can think of.

It happens in other sports too. I was walking down the Vegas strip and Mike Tyson punched my face and bit my ear. It was awesome!

I do, it was Embiid... like a few days earlier.

I also like that he seems to be a gamer with just about anyone and not just playing with other black guys.

That second video is just hilarious. I love how Embiid gets in the face of the guy after the dunk who is just laughing his ass off.

Black shirt guy in video 1 clearly does not know his role.

LOL. Yeah. When Embiid offers for the ball, you probably shouldn't put it on the floor and drive to the hoop.

Unless you happen to be Ben Simmons.

That’s kinda neat, but I’d still like him to play a little more often before talking smack.

I know very well what it's like so I can tell a moody bitch when I see one.
