Alabama runs away with SEC men's golf championship; Justin Thomas, Bobby Wyatt finish 1-2 | al.com
It's hard to win something more soundly than the Alabama men's golf team did this weekend.
The Crimson Tide collected its first SEC title since 2008 with ease, as it shot 2-over, 282, to finish 12-under overall at the SEC Championships in St. Simons Island, Ga. Auburn, which shot the best round Sunday and was the only other team under par for the three-day tournament, finished seven strokes behind in second place.
Making things sweeter for Alabama was how it finished on the individual side. Freshman Justin Thomas shot 2-under, 68, to claim the individual title, his third of the season. Not far behind in second was Crimson Tide sophomore Bobby Wyatt, who finished in second place.
Auburn junior Blayne Barber shot a 3-under, 67 on Sunday to vault into a tie for third. Tigers freshman Michael Johnson finished seventh overall.
Next up for both teams are the NCAA Regionals, which start May 17.
