Holy shit. Is Mike Trout already in "retires tomorrow, gets into the Hall of Fame" range?

I just looked up his stats, and don't think he is, but I have no doubt he'll be there when all is said and done.

he's been the obvious best player in baseball since the beginning of 2012. even if WAR isn't your cup of tea, he blows everyone else away offensively and that's before you account for his baserunning and defense.
If Utley is borderline is Cano as well?

I also think Votto has a chance.

Some that I think have a chance with more time are
Hamels and Sale

I think Hamels is pretty close. I need to see a few more elite years from Sale but he's had a pretty strong run over the last 6.5 years.

Fair. Put him in the 2nd or 4th categories.

As for the fact he is a 2-time CY winner, how about Tim Lincecum? Or Johan Santana?

Fair points as well. And let's not forget that Cliff Lee was looking like a borderline HOFer until his career ended abruptly. Or Brandon Webb...

I have to agree with you ... that's why "Sweet" Lou Whitaker isn't in, because he didn't talk much with the press.

Chris "Scissorhands" Sale might get into the Hall, but he should be put in the nursery just a short distance from the women's section

Instead they voted in Jack Morris, a blowhard with the same ERA+ as Tim Wakefield and Javier Vazquez.

He loses points for having glass leg bones that lead to the gayest rule in the history of sports.

Oh brother, you're one of those. Whatever, maybe he'll mention you in his HOF speech.

Hard for a bubble guy to get in with an official knock against him.

Bonds and Clemens have no official knocks, and it wasn’t even illegal, when they allegedly did it anyway, and they are not in. No way can a bbble-boy get in with a positive test when it was officially against the rules.
Really? IDK where to start on this one but ill try to be brief. It WAS absolutely illegal everywhere in this country. It WASN'T considered breaking any MLB rules becuz none were in place. That doesn't make it any more acceptable becuz the fact is they broke the law. "Allegedly" ? Really?

Bonds and CLemens will either be voted in or put in via the veteran committee(or whatever they call it now) long before Cano will be eligible. So he doesn't have to wait on anyone.

And I'd put in Dale Murphy over Lou. 2x MVP and all.
MY MAN! Dale Murphy!

Is that all you have ... Lou Whitaker was one-half of a legendary double play combination ... beats Murphy in just about every offense category as a 2nd baseman.

There was no baseball rule against its use. This is not a debatable point.

As for my use of the word “allegedly”, neither failed any tests by the league during its open testing phase. RUMORS are that the failed the anonymous tests, but those were, um, anonymous. While I fully believe they both used, there is no actual test results proving they did.

Cano took while there was a spelled out rule against it in MLB and failed a test showing he used.

Apples and oranges, really.

The problem with Murphy is that he fell off too sharply. When you look at his career, he only had like 6 'all star caliber' seasons, and it's not like any of them were historic to make up for the short prime.

Dale Murphy is Nomar with a bunch of mediocre/replacement level seasons mixed in. I don't see how either are HOFers.

Disagree with Altuve being in the conversation now. He needs to put some miles on him with consistent numbers. He has really only played 7 real seasons

As an Astros fan, I agree. Let's see if he keeps this pace (or close to it) for the next 3-4 years. Then we can definitely talk.

Just look at his individual seasons...most of his seasons weren't just great, but rather historically great. You won't find many seasons in MLB history has good as his 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, and potentially 2018 when it's finished.

Agreed. A few more seasons like 2016-17 gives him a good case IMO. Altuve's last two seasons are two of the greatest at the 2nd base position. Altuve's 160 wRC+ last year was the 31th highest all-time among 2B. The majority of the seasons ahead of him are pre-WWII seasons.

I think Altuve is a lock ... Trout is a lock ... Lindor ... looks pretty damn good ... Harper is way too Baseball BiPolar ... Kershaw is a lock and Bumgarner if he can stay healthy.
