Cano was probably close to being a lock prior to the PED suspension.

A couple I'd throw in the maybe category:

Joey Votto (I think he should be a "lock" if he finishes with another elite year, he's been among the best hitters in the league for a good decade now)
Felix Hernandez (looked like a HOFer until the last few years, not sure if he'll really add to his resume at this point)
Buster Posey (Has pretty much been the best catcher in baseball since his rookie year and is one of the best offensive catchers of all-time)
C.C. Sabathia
Zack Greinke (strong career numbers and two historically good years)

Pedroia, Kinsler, Longoria and Hamels also have 50+ WAR but probably won't get much HOF support. I do think David Wright has a decent peak case, but his career might just be too short.

Locks

Pujols
Cabrera
Kershaw
Scherzer
Greinke
Beltre

Basically locks, just need more time (even at “average-player” levels)

Posey
Verlander
Trout
McCutchen
Votto

On the bubble right now (at the end of their career)

Molina
Utley
Felix
Sabathia

On the bubble (or just too early to give it to them) with time to go

Goldschmidt
Bumgarner
Harper
Arenado
Stanton

Holy shit. Is Mike Trout already in "retires tomorrow, gets into the Hall of Fame" range?

I just looked up his stats, and don't think he is, but I have no doubt he'll be there when all is said and done.

Verlander is a weird case for me... his career ERA is nothing special, but his IP is... but the advanced stats love him... then he gets the great BIG GAME pitcher title, but has yet to win a WS game... so how big game is he??

was only a CY once, only had 3 seasons of below 3.00 ERA...

you left off Corey Kluber... sure his career numbers aren't great, but he is already a 2 time CY if he wins anymore, it will be hard to not let him in...

and greinke a lock?? that is very generous...

IDK if trout is... it is weird, i think if he he plays 2 major league average seasons and then retires he is in... i have a hard time giving HOF to a player who didn't play 10 seasons... But once he does he is in, even if his last 2 seasons are worst major leaguer ever...

but that then makes me wonder if he has to have the 10 seasons or not...

Fair. Put him in the 2nd or 4th categories.

As for the fact he is a 2-time CY winner, how about Tim Lincecum? Or Johan Santana?

yea, didn't say he will make it with 2... just that it will be hard to not let him in if he gets even one more...

I agree completely. I was just alarmed when I saw him on the list of sure HoFers because I was certain I am not that old. I'm not, so I am happy.

Really kinda silly I'd bother arguing it though.

Casual fans would go 'huh' if you mentioned Beltre, who has become one of the best ballplayers nobody ever talks about.
Pujols is in.
Verlander, most likely.
Trout isn't ready for the conversation.
Altuve might be ready for the conversation.
Miggy is in the day he is eligible.

Utley was one of the best second basemen ever in his prime but he fell off so fast and his counting stats aren't aren't great. I really hope he makes it but I don't see it happening. I used to think if he got to 2000 hits he would make it but his rate stats have taken a hit by hanging on so long.

Peak years might be enough. He was arguably the best second baseman in the majors for a while there.

If Trout can manage to play a couple more years to reach the 10 year career, he's a lock. He's far more ready for the conversation than Altuve.
