When pressed, a couple of the beat writers have said that if he were playing in the playoffs, he would be sandwiched into the second spot between Zim and Gio because he has been very hot and cold. Still, I wish we had him to throw out in a Game 7 situation should it arise.

I understand the reasoning and they said that they couldn't spot start him because the 5 day cycle is important as well. The only way that I think they could have done it different is to start "spring training" with him in April or May and get 40-50 into the season before starting him up. I am not sure they thought they would be in this situation though. I also don't know if they would be in this situation without him there in the early games.

It sucks though, for sure.

Assuming you make the playoffs, I can see a lot of America rooting for the Nats. Very entertaining team, with a lot of side stories. And if they go up against the Dodgers, I might just live and breathe Nats baseball for about a week.

It's pretty common these days to limit the innings pitched for prospects as they matriculate through the system. The idea is to stay away from large jumps in innings pitched. You'll see this referenced from time to time, especially when college arms are drafted and they evaluate the stress already put on the arm from their just completed college season.

Sorry I was unclear. What I meant was other situations in which a star pitcher was shut down just prior to the playoffs not because of injury, but because of a limit the team had placed on him.

I don't know that it's idiotic. He's essentially in the last phase of his rehab, and there is no experience with what effects a radically reduced innings limit per game would do for his rehab. They're simply staying in the known, since going out of it is too risky. They're doing the kid a solid, if you ask me.

Idiotic is too harsh I suppose, and I'm not advocating riding him into the ground. They are indeed doing him a solid, but what about the fans and the rest of the team? Can't they find a way to let him pitch in the postseason? It might only be 2-3 starts, he can be the 4th starter...start limiting him now with starts every 8-10 games, 5-6 innings max instead of a total shutdown?

Could you imagine facing Lombardozzi in a playoff series?

Felix Does It!!

Happy for him and the Ms.

Wow, 3 perfect games in a season. Happy for the guy, too. Although a small part of me wished it was a no hitter instead of a perfecto.

2 of them in Seattle, 1 at PacBell. Not surprising.

My preference order (after the Giants):
1.) Pittsburgh
2.) Washington
3.) Atlanta
4.) St. Louis (have less hate towards them since Larussa and Pooholes left)
5.) Cincinnati

Dodgers.

Ok fellas, i am off to a football game, but it was a fun series, even if we got off to a rough start. Hopefully we will see you in the playoffs.

Good luck the rest of the way!

Take care, bud. You guys are on the rise......we......may not be.

just a little surprising considering perfect games come around less often than the Olympics ;)

edit: I could use a little more reading comprehension. Regarding location, yes.

Wake me when someone pitches a perfecto in Philly, the new Yankee Stadium, Colorado, etc

I'd guess the thinking is that any other alternative is operating in a "risky" environment. And humans are normally risk averse - usually to the detriment of their overall utility.

You have the Dodgers that high? ;)

I'd go:

Pitt
Nats
Reds

Everyone else but Dodgers.

Dodgers below hell.

Oh well, no clutch from Craw in the 8th.

Gotta run guys. Tough news today.

Hoping for a miracle. It'd be nice if Pitt can beat Kershaw tonight.

The schedule has been very kind to the dodgers. They get the Pirates right when Pittsburgh is slumping.
