He is essentially a 1-pitch pitcher. Hard to do that as a SP. Once the other team figures out the curve, lights out.

Someone teach the kid another pitch!

See, this is still my problem with bullpen usage. It's easy to rag on the pitchers for giving up inherited runners, but a fresh reliever should have been coming in this inning with a clean pallet.

Tough to execute every time with no margin for error, which Boch put his guys into. I had hope this was going to get fixed a little bit this year, but so far it's not really.

edit: The Giants had the most inherited runners in baseball last year. That's on the starters, but also on Bochy when seeing first hand that he overused his starters.

Is the bully selfish?

Serious question. They just seem to not care about inherited runners. Kirk mentioned that on M@M this week or last, that a lot of relievers have that mentality (as long as it isn’t MY run, all’s good)

Then Gearrin must be one of the most selfish. He's been notorious for clearing the bases every time out (I know, an exaggeration, but only a slight one).

no one is asking for “every time”. But it really is almost like clockwork that anything left on base when this bully comes in will end up scoring. Been that way for a season and a half plus now. Basically ever since Greek broke his streak.

My thoughts are on this above ^

TL;DR it's tough to consistently get out of jams when the manager and starters consistently get into jams

Change that to most of the time and my point still stands. Bochy and the starters put the bullpen under the most pressure last season in the majors, that's not a winning formula.

A bit of chicken/egg there. The Giants pen last year sucked balls. Bochy could not afford to give them too many outs. He was forced to rely on the starters beyond their abilities.
