I do not see WR as a priority. At least not in round 4
Don't disagree with this.
We do have a plethora of picks and it might be a good time to use one on a WR

Tyler Scott? AT Perry?
I'd take Dawand Jones at 1st pick in 4th if available.
He is not a slam dunk so they might like someone else better at OT?

Definetly a hybrid.

BB and company will utilize his skills all over the field.

Expect him to make it as a ST player while he learns his new schemes brought in situationally.
I see him as a starter almost immediately agains certain teams/situations

I too like Jones b/c I still feel he has a ceiling, some room to get better.

Jones definitely has room to grow. (no pun intended)
He has shown steady improvement through college but might need time as a pro.
If we had to start him because of a starter injury, it would be no cake-walk around Jones.
Drop 30 pounds in camp and he might be a star......

I have no doubt they will get him to the ideal fighting weight. Question will be how good is Klemm at working with these guys?

I see his position being very complex. I think it will take time before they give him full responsibility. I see a lot of 3rd down use both as a blitzer and a cover guy.

The thing that we all forget is that Bill Belichick and his group have two boards.
Most likely Jeramiah's top 250.

Then there's the Player Value Board where the staff has worked cumulative hours to create a value between 1 and 100. As players are taken, they get removed from both boards. at the end of each round all of the players remaining are moved forward.

Bill and Groh will take the best valued player on their board unless it is a position that they are stacked. That board has never been written on paper or photographed because they do not want they're grading system leaked or any player's score released to the public.

So don't be surprised if no OTs or WRs are selected. It will depend on their score and where they are positioned on the Patriots' Board to be considered.

We'll never know the Patriots' Board, but here is the best remaining players according to ESPN. You choose.

Patriots selected Sacramento State S Marte Mapu with the No. 76 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Perhaps no player improved their NFL Draft profile in the postseason evaluation process than Mapu (6’3/221). A six-year player and Sacramento State program legend, Mapu was named the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year and a First Team FCS All-American. He was invited to the NFLPA Bowl and proceeded to blow away his peers, intercepting multiple passes and providing all-encompassing sticky coverage all week in practice sessions. The Senior Bowl noticed and gave him a secondary invitation which earned him significant exposure since players don’t end up at the Senior Bowl by accident, though he suffered a chest injury that knocked him out of Combine testing. Mapu held his own at the Senior Bowl by displaying the perfect, Tetris-esque fits he deployed during his days as a linebacker. He has an advanced feel for space in zone and the kind of banger demeanor the NFL looks for in a modern enforcer. Mapu will be an instant special teams contributor with backup box-safety value and the ability to play off ball linebacker in a pinch.

Jake Andrews - center. This was a surprise of sorts.
We have been talking about David Andrews getting older and smallish.
Jake can learn under David.

"12 games as a backup at all three interior line positions in 2019. Andrews stepped into the starting lineup for all 11 games in 2020 and all 12 contests in 2021. He moved to center for his senior season, excelling to the point where Sun Belt coaches voted him first-team all-conference for his play in 14 starts."
"Wrestled and won the state championship as a senior"

"Wrestling background shows up on tape with how well he negotiates leverage throughout the block."

Note that he switched to center as a senior and flew under the radar of pundits.

We gave 2 4th's for a kicker - he better be good!

  • Has five years of kicking experience in college.
  • Made 60 percent of his career field goal tries from 50-plus yards.
  • Quality hang-time on kickoffs.
  • Creates instant lift with end-over-end kicks.
Jets use one of those 2 picks for a development tackle......

Sidy Sow - G
Big boodied strong development guard. Has a lot to learn but the physical traits are there.

"Sow brings considerable experience to the Patriots offense. Not only will he turn 25 in June, he also started 55 games over the course of his career with the Eagles — 44 at left guard, and 11 at left tackle. A two-time first-team All-MAC selection, he combines impressive size (6’5”, 323 lbs) with a good athletic foundation."
