Gobert has been a top 5ish player analytically for a few years now.

defending the rim is a super valuable skill.

he’s better Hibbert defensively, the guy who have bron the most issue over his career, and also a good offensive player

You and your analytics.

You have to apply some common sense with those numbers.

Gobert is not even close to top 5 in terms of value. If he were, the Jazz would be annual contenders.

You can’t build a team around a traditional center in the modern NBA. Just doesn’t work.

Paying $40M/year for a rim protector is more than ridiculous, it is borderline looney bin. I don’t care if you are Ben Wallace. I mean if we are talking about an Embiid or even Dwight Howard type, I could back it but Gobert is never going to do enough, especially offensively to make this deal anywhere close to sane. And I get they were going to be in the luxury anyway but still...$40M/year is just crazy.

It is only okay to do that if your rim protector is also a guy you can run offense through.

Like an Anthony Davis or Joel Embiid.

Gobert isn’t that.

Strange to see Kennard get extended and hasn’t played one game with the Clippers and was injured last year. I know the deadline was soon but still...a little strange

The more these deals are announced....the stupider kuz look.

Should have bet on himself and took his chances in free agency

I think the lakers overpaid based on what he’s done now.

he’s replacement level at this point.

The Jazz had to overpay Gobert to keep him. Some other team would have paid him. They did what they had to ensure he stayed.

just as big of a problem with that Mitchell is more like a McCollum than the Dame his rep makes him out to be.

Look at what the Heat did with Bam as their second best player.

Gobert can be that.

not the same role, but the second best guy

I feel like securing the bag is #1 priority on your first NBA deal outside your rookie one. Nerlens Noel bet on himself and look what that got him.

He'll be 28 by the time his deal expires and should be in his prime years. He'll have another shot for a good sized deal.

I just think turning down 40M over 3 years is incredibly difficult in general. Takes a bold/determined person (Jimmy Butler) to do that and actually have it pan out.

Gobert can't do the things Bam can do on the offense though. Bam can literally initiate Miami's offense

But bam isn’t the best defensive player in the solar system

Can we even say Gobert ever put his team on his back to lead them victory in the playoffs?

I guess he took less and wanted to win more than money. Then take his chances on his next contract. I agree but it wasn’t terrible

hollinger projects Kuz to be worth 5.8m this year.

Thats a heck of a leap to get to double that
