It was a solid pick. He was likely the best player available. If he continues to develop, he should be a mainstay for many years.

Arizona just got their closer of the future! Ryan Burr ASUs closer has a good breaking ball and a heater in the mid 90s.

Dbacks have had a solid draft so far. Pitching heavy with a mix of several infielders. I really like the way that the front office is trending with this team. I am more than willing to spend my money now than in recent years.

What I like about our draft so far is that we got a whole bunch of pitchers with a plus fastball. When LaRussa was with the Cardinals it always seemed like he could bring someone up from the minors who threw major gas and the Cardinals pitching was always stacked. I think he's trying to bring that to Arizona. I'm tired of seeing our top pitching prospects have an average low 90s fastball. I think that's about to change.

One thing was obvious about this draft, TLR put his stamp on it. We selected 36/40 of prospects from college. That's 90%. A dramatic shift from previous years.
While this means that we likely passed up on a lot 'high-ceiling' guys, it also means that drafted more players with a 'higher-floor'. The end result might be that we drafted more players who are likely to make it the big league but won't be the all-star type players. That is exactly what the Dbacks needed. They need more guys who can make there way through the farm & contribute to a 25-man roster.
It's always intriguing or exciting to draft those '5-tool' 'high-ceiling' athletes. But a lot of the time those guys have 'low-floors' & flame out on their way through the system.
Overall, I give TLR & Stewart a B+ for this draft.
