He's owed between 37.5 and 52.5 million in 2015/2016, and whatever is left for this year (8 million or so) that's just a lot of money to negotiate over.

Also, don't get the Lackey to the Cards deal, Cards can't hit, and just traded a guy who has shown except for this year he is a very good hitter.

I am amazed the Cards gave up Craig and Kelly for Lackey.

Yeah, Lackey's barely an upgrade over Kelly, and he's a jerk. They got rid of a bat (albeit a struggling bat) for and a pitcher the team liked for a guy who's barely an upgrade over the pitcher who nobody likes.

Overall, I think the Cards may have actually gotten worse this trade deadline. They didn't get all that much better at least.

It's worth talking at least. He'd probably cost a lot less in terms of prospects than Price/Kennedy, and I think he's a better pitcher than Kennedy.

Oliver Perez might be a good bullpen option. He's having a tremendous season, striking out a ton of guys and not walking that many. He'd slot in nicely in the 7th inning, I think.

I really don't get it either, they needed hitting. Trading away a guy who has been your best hitter for a few years running during a down year doesn't make a lot of sense. Unless you really believe he is completely done as a player.

Yeah, he seems like a good option.

We're also apparently kicking the tires on Bonafacio, who is crushing left-handed pitching this year and can play anywhere. He'd be a bench upgrade, probably over Barmes I would imagine (assuming they would trust Harrison or Bonafacio to spot-start at short when Jordy needs a rest). Also would let us spell Polanco and/or Walker against lefties occasionally without losing anything.

I think Bonifacio being a switch hitter is an asset, and as is his flexibility, but I have a hard time buying he is gonna be a lefty crusher since he never has been, and most switch hitters have small splits.

Either way, he's a useful player and worth targeting. His splits this season are massive, though. He's been terrible against righties.

Also, with the Brewers stealing Parra from the DBacks, that makes Oliver Perez even more interesting to me. Towers is not a good GM, we might be able to steal him.

Yeah, towers is pretty awful. Would sell him on the try-guy, he seems to love them. He took a decent team and dismantled it for no reason.

Rosenthal reports Price to the Tigers, so it's probably real.

Well, I'd like to see them get something. Strange that very few bullpen pieces have moved today.
