Yep ... not actually looking at the game .... but following it via Gameday.... seems that the Pads are hitting some really hard shots off off Gas. Hope we can put up another 6 spot .... think we may need it before this game is over ...

Why does it take the Padres playing us for them to actually win (albeit, at least it started in the 3rd of a 4 game set)?

Ugh....gonna be a photo finish in October...if we're lucky.

But it's not a surprise either...Dodgers on paper are a better team

Tony Watson is really starting to look like a poor acquisition and that the FO was correct to let him walk and incorrect to trade prospects to get him back.

Yeah ... Watson has been either unhitable... or gets crushed .... doesn't seem to be a middle ground... this happens to be his crushed mode

Really lost a great opportunity these past two days. Took the first two and then the pitching decided to disappear.

Hope we turn this around very very soon ... doesn't bode well for the Braves series.

If Watson doesn't have a meltdown ... we may have tied it up in the 9th ... back to back days that our pen hasn't looked as good as they are ...

Disappointing to say the least. 3 with the Braves this weekend while the pinheads from LA go to Cinncinati. Gotta take at least 2 of 3 and hope the Reds can play like they want in.

That’s going to happen. And is one of the problems I see in the new “Wholestaff” strategy of pitching. Not only does it put an incredible strain on your pitching staff, but only one of your pitchers needs to be “off” for a game for the whole thing to crumble.

Having 5 “solid” starters may not be realistic moving forward, but I am not sure the wholestaff strategy is the proper answer to this evolution in the game.

Agreed. I think it has to be a combo, 3 starters and 2 bullpen games maybe?

I didn't see the game, but going from the box score, looks like the #weaklink was phuking GasMan.

So, I leave for 8 days, and the Giants are 8-0 while I am in Minnesota and Cincinnati. I come home, and the Giants are 0-2.

Coincidence?
Either that, or me being off the grid for 25 hours made them 0-2.

Won't happen again, promise.

Look at the boxscore more closely ... Gasman struggled. Give up hits in all the wrong situations. 4 runs in 5 innings. He leaves down 4-2. Watson enters the game. In 2/3 of an inning he gives up 4 hits 3 runs and a walk. He leaves down 7-2. We get 2 of the runs back. Too little to late. Watson has been very erratic this year. He's either unhittable or he gets crushed. This was a crushed moment.

Fair enough. I see that he was atrocious. But, he's a middle reliever, not a front of the rotation starter...the expectations are different.

Watson's ERA with the Angels was 4.64

Even with the meltdown, his ERA with the Giants is 3.26. Before the meltdown, it was 2.09

In 21 games with the Giants, he has allowed runs in only 3 of them, 1 run in 1 game, and 3 runs each in two other games.

He's best when given a clean inning, but with the Angels, he inherited 23 runners and only 2 scored. With the Giants, he has only inherited 2 runners, and none have scored.
