Sources: Redskins end RG III era, release QB

The title says it all.

Maybe McCloughan released him now to get rid of the headaches from fielding trade offers from multiple teams and, at the same time, trying to work RGIII's contract.

Not.

Now, let the guessing begin as to where his next landing spot will be.

Thank God. So we can stop talking about him on this board. When SM gave RG3 the 16M option that just closed any trade offers for him so I can't see why people thought that we were going to get any picks after that 16M option was given. It was a bad move but its water under the bridge so lets move on.

My question is why the Redskins waited until now. Maybe they wanted to give RGIII more time in which to seek a deal. Or maybe they wanted to clear cap room now for the legal tampering period that opens up in about a few minutes. Who knows?

They waited because it was in their best interest to see if the could get any interest. But as most of us have been saying for weeks now that contract made if impossible.

Finally we can turn the page.

Classy post by RG3 & he has acted professionally all season in a setup where many other players would have been a burden. Props to him for that. It is just best for both the team & RG3 to move on. I wish him the best unless obviously he plays the Redskins or plays for a rival.

Out of respect for Dad's wishes I'll post my thoughts here.

Fuck Robert Griffin. I feel like a scorned lover sticking my neck out for this punk as long as I did. Sure he showed class by keeping his mouth shut all year but really what choice did he have? When he left the quote from the Bible on his locker when he left, something about being wronged and the victim, it showed he hasn't learned a damned thing.

I will never root for any player to be injured. But by the same token why in the world would I want him to go somewhere else and succeed? Was anyone really happy that David Akers was great for Philly for a decade knowing he was here and we lost him during the ownership change? Not me, it pissed me off as we lost game after game with crappy kickers for years. Griffin playing great for someone else would be 100X worse given all we invested in him.

Exactly. I got a thumbs down for stating the exact same thing. It makes no sense. RG3 is not a great guy, an ambassador to the game. So why would anybody root for him to do well?

You guys are brutal. I hope he succeeds where ever he goes. Here's why. He's not the only one who has ever had a young brash cocky I'm-bigger-than-the-game persona when he first enters the NFL. He gave everything for this team to win in 2012. His body, heart and legs. (ok, yea legs are part of the body)... Granted, the dude is a twitter nightmare and his stupid note he left at his locker is another example of his still "you did me wrong" attitude... but why all the hatred? Humility is a great motivator. We all do stupid things especially before the age of 30. Everybody wants to be the man. To hate on him because he wanted to be the starter is silly. It's unfair to wish him anything but success. He gave the skins everything he had.

I would sort of agree. BUt his little parting shots say he has ZERO humility.

So fuck em.. I hoe he goes to the Browns on a 10 year deal. :D

Why all the hate?

We gave up the farm to get him...we gave up more than any team has ever given up. So yes...I hope he fails and fails miserably. I hope he goes to Dallas and signs a 10 year 100 million dollar deal with 80 mil guaranteed. Then I hope he averages 4 wins per season over the next five years and Dallas has to cut him.

And he did not give the Skins everything he had. He didn't give his mind and that is all he needed to give.

So you're blaming him for the stupid ass skins decision to give what they gave. That aint on him. You question his mind... His body wasn't enough. Once he tried thinking with his mind... he sucked. Sometimes all a player has is his skills. Actually, half the players in the NFL.

So when a player publicly refuses to play to his strengths.... who else is to blame but the player?? Supposed Kelvin Benjamin came out and said he didnt want to be a deep threat because it was a health risk?? Or what if Cam said he wasnt going to run any more read option plays because he thinks he is the best pocket passer in the universe. If the team does EXACTLY what he asked for and he sucks... are you going to blame the coach or the team??

I blame the Skins for giving it up. I blame the player for not doing his job.

You didn't give up the farm - the Redskins did. As it turns out, the Rams suck and the Redskins, despite giving up the farm, are in a better spot than the Rams. You also have no idea if RG3 "gave his mind." Also, chill out, Francis.
